Good concept, poorly executed.
Excellent but underrated film
It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
I usually dismiss small stuff like bad decision making and improbability when it's in small doses. I mean they are movies after all. BUT, this film is totally ridiculous. From repelling down a sheer-face-cliff with half the rope to reach the bottom, to not crossing a not-so-fast river, and not being able to hear someone 15 yards away, because of the 'fast-rushing-water'. It's truly absurd more often than it's not.THere are endless examples of this garbage in this flick, and the rest of it isn't much better. The acting is average, the story is just dull, the writing is deplorable, and the end-result, is perhaps the worst 6.3 movie I've ever seen.I'd pass. This sat on my netflix q for a few weeks. What a waste of space... and time.It is a very lonely place to die indeed. Pretty boy tumbles down a mountain, bashes into a tree, lands looking like and sounding-like he broke his leg. Gets up only to be running in the next scene and looking like a polo model in the face and clothes. I could go on... I'd rather not. Pass.I had a few good laughs, but I'm pretty sure this is 'supposed' to be a thriller. 43/100
I'll admit 'A Lonely Way to Die' started off promising. For the first 30 minutes or so I was pretty captivated, which really takes a lot these days, as I have nothing to do but binge watch movies on Amazon and Netflix.Perhaps part of the problem is that I have been watching so many thrillers and horror movies that apart from a few hidden gems, the genre is just becoming stale, which perfectly describes what I think of this film; old, cliché, rehashed crap.About 50 minutes in I just couldn't do it anymore. I felt like I could probably guess the way the movie would end, and even if I was wrong, I really couldn't care less. In a film like 'A Lonely Way to Die', a rather run of the mill thriller, I believe it's important to have likable, rich characters. But instead we get more clichéd caricatures, hot chicks climbing mountains, arrogant men, selfish men, bla bla bla. It kind of reminded me of The 11th Hour, the Kim Basinger film, which also sucked, but at least had the advantage of being stylistically savvy and having some good actors.I really wouldn't waste my time with this one.
I live in the Scottish Highlands so seeing all the places I know on the big screen makes me wet my panties with excitement :D When the village Bobby said "I'll take ye up to Inverness central police station." That was just the icing in the cake because I live in Inverness and yes I was naughty once and ended up in the cells at Burnett Road police station aka "Inverness central police station." Anoch Mor, the town they were trying to find when they were in the mountains is actually a village called Dingwall its not far from where I live either.A friend of mine who is an actual climber said "This is one of the few films that portrays rock climbing accurately.
Mountain climbers Rob (Alec Newman), Ed (Ed Speleers), Alison (Melissa George), Jenny (Kate Magowan) and Alex (Garry Sweeney) run across a suspicious pipe coming out of the ground in the Scottish highlands. They find a girl who doesn't speak English held as a prisoner. Rob and Alison make a dangerous descend to contact the authorities while the rest of the group make a long walk out. An unknown person sabotages the climb and kills Rob. The group reunites but are hunted by the bad guys. The first hour is an amazing thriller. It's a great setup which builds up to an amazing place. I love Melissa George as this heroine. It's a great movie and then they get to town. It falters as the movie which started out as a stripped down outdoors thriller turns into a messy crossfire. There are too many new characters being injected late in the movie. It doesn't fit the other parts of the movie. It should have stayed in the wilderness. It shouldn't have a whole new set of characters. It could climax at a small settlement. This could have a great indie thriller.
