I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
I stopped watching when the terrorist at the meet looks across at Cage and Yeltchin, playing two highly experienced CIA agents, sees them staring at him and, strangely enough, takes off!Yeltchin, at this point, shouts "Damn he's seen us!" Of course, he saw you. You're two highly experienced CIA agents who know how to blend into any situation but, instead, choose to sit on a bench and stare directly at the mark. Hmmmm....Now Cage has got an excuse for this as he's got a dread disease which kind of excuses him for being in this film at all. Oh no, wait, the characters got the disease....so what's your excuse Nic???Absolutely terrible film....
The acting was great. This movie did need more characters, and interacting themes to be better. Lack of more action / romance did make it boring... and I am not much for revenge. Yet the list of drugs suggested to give to Evan Lake was not a surprise. This caught my interest to continue watching. The speech he made before being escorted out, is how a lot of people in our country feel right now. Drugs are turning people into who they are not and would not be if normal, not on a drug. Zoloft causes crazy behavior, magnifies what one desires and could be used by the Government to even cause bad behaviors wanted to create crimes to get more control over weapons and wealth that our people possess. I was hoping to see this association. Zoloft can cause what his disease was to cause. I like what's fun (comedy romance) to watch, and consider myself a peacemaker, so to watch this type of movie isn't my style. But I did watch it because of the references to the drugs, I know aren't good, in what it does to people and the expression of how many of our people feel about our government. Addressing the religious issues would have made this movie better. NO one talks about our religious differences nor what we have in common. Tonight we had just watched "Agora" and this was worth watching more so as a historical display of religious prejudice, whereby people use religious and political power to play emotional states of people into civil war. In "Dying of the Light" there was no display of what's good, except for the loyalty of a friend... I enjoyed that part. The acting was great.
Dying of the Light featuring Nicolas Cage, well that's the reason I chose to watch the movie. I'm used to seeing Nicolas Cage typically play himself in every film and I'm typically sure of what to expect; so I didn't feel that watching this movie could be any different. Now Dying of the Light had a great story idea and the acting for the most part was sort of fair, not great. The issue with this film is it seemed to not ever get to what it was aiming for. It's not a bad movie, though it is one of those films that is hard to hold your attention.Dying of the Light did have some really good potential it just didn't come through, great attempt.
I've used this site for nearly 2 decades. Yet, this is the first time I have felt compelled to sign up or comment. Nicholas Cage's performances was.. Nicholas Cage. As expected. He did well. The movie? Thought provoking, and I thought the contrast of them both having diseases was intriguing. I thought the conclusion was interesting. Would have liked to see the bad guy killed by Cage, but I think it's due to the fact that he realized they were both gone anyway. What I find truly disgusting, is that this movie had poor reviews. I'm wondering if people's expectations of movies has gone to total crap. While I didn't find this the most awesome movie I've ever seen, I also surely didn't think it was a bad movie. I have often found that critic reviews are so harsh they can hardly be trusted at all. But, when viewers find a movie that has not at all shown that it is a lemon, call it a lemon, I'm really wondering what has happened to us.
