This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

I heard a lot of good things about it but I was procrastinating the watch for some reason, my subconscious already knew why apparently. Jokes aside, this movie was annoyingly ridiculous to me. She was beautiful, he is an awesome actor, the atmosphere screamed Polanski all over it and I thought what could go wrong, right? Well, first of all, her acting was terrible and annoying when she played the role of Anna. I could literally picture in my mind in most scenes how the director behind the scenes screaming to her "now roll over, be more insane, do this do that", such a feeling I had when I watched the annoying Babadook kid acting out too. They both did a bad acting job IMO and or maybe it was the director's fault. I can see the director as some kind of visionary megalomaniac, clearly inspired by Polanski. That being said, the movie didn't make much sense nor it explained anything. It was long and boring, but if it was made better, even with the same elements but placed more logically, could have been good. I also like the Lovecraftian overtone that it has. I'm actually surprised that I disliked the movie. I mean I didn't actually dislike it, I was intrigued to a degree but at the same time I was put off, because I was constantly seeing a missed potential. I don't know, I may be wrong, perhaps I'm doing injustice to the movie, but I was ultimately disappointed. I felt like the director was improvising badly, a lot. As I said, this movie could be better. It was too vague and artsy to be considered an actually enjoyable and entertaining horror movie, but it is not that far from it either, so I have very mixed feelings about it and that's why I rated it 5 out of 10 stars.

I am glad I watched this film alone on DVD because I would have been embarrassed sitting in a cinema with other people. The acting is both artificial and appalling, and the script (?) risible. There simply is no meaning or sense to most (any?) of what is said (or done). Yeah, I get the mental breakdown bit bla bla bla, but even so..... If you love that type of thing, great - go, see it and inject your own meaning to a very blank canvas; if not, stay well away. And no, I am not a fan of Star Wars-type films.

This movie is really something. I remember first seeing a clip from the movie in film school and the class was totally stunned. It wasn't the most infamous scene we saw, it was just an "ordinary" clip from the movie and the acting, the photography, everything really blew us away. This movie is not for people who gets easily offended by gory stuff or screaming actors because its quite much screaming almost through the whole movie. It's sad to see that this movie is not well known as it should be, it's just a very good hidden gem that will be a pleasure to discover but you're at your own risk viewing it because this movie will creep very deep under your skin and stay there. I will give a huge applaud to Zulawskis impeccable directing, Adjani and Neill acting their hearts and souls out (they practically become their characters, it's almost like they stop acting and just become their roles, it's that good!) And the soundtrack that gives the movie that eerie feeling. And of course the great Bruno Nuytten, the cinematography is Immaculate! Stunning, captivating, eerie and plain beautiful! Good to know that this movie is not really a horror film it's more drama, pshycological drama/thriller and it's a very heavy movie so you better get mentally and emotionally prepared to watch it. I get this movie 10+/10, It's really an unknown masterpiece worth checking out!

agreed this movie is not just a regular work of motion picture to be merely entertained with but i just kept wondering when is it going to finish since the very beginning! i'm sure i would have been quite impressed if i'd watched this movie in the year it was made when i was only 23 years young and still way more into being surprised by anything unusual ...although even there and then, i was going through a phase of my life that i had started to stop being easily impressed by anything, and i was doing it almost knowingly too ... therefore, under my present circumstances in life and at my present age, i think i'd let it pass without worrying a bit about how my taste has changed so much during all these years ...well, to be fair, i also have to admit i watched a YouTube copy that had been intentionally screwed so that YT wouldn't take it down! it was also a much shorter version reportedly but at least the picture quality and sound were tolerably good anyway ... even though, i'm still with what i just said: i'm not impressed really ... (for those who may be offended by this review of mine because they believe they love this movie: agreed, my bad!) ;-)ps: would it be safe to say the story was at least partially inspired by that of Polanski's (Ira Levin's) Rosemary's Baby? is this a sequel to that movie, sort of? naaah!
