A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
Wow, Scarlett Johansson is so beautiful. I love her attempt at Woody-type shtick, even though she may be too young to totally understand the gimmick, or the art I should say, Scarlett really goes for it and she's so cute doing it. So, so cute...I love Scarlett Johansson. I hardly notice Woody when I watch Scoop. I hear him. Hugh Jackman's very nice and he gives a convincing portrayal as the killer. Scoop has the right idea, with its...God, I love Scarlett in glasses! When she removes her glasses, then disrobes into her red swimsuit and dips in the pool with Hugh then pretends to drown then Hugh rescues her pulling her to the poolside then Scarlett thanks Hugh and apologizes then she EMERGES OUT OF THE POOL LIKE A GLISTENING VOLUPTUOUSLY BOSOMED AND BODIED AQUATIC GODDESS!! then Scarlett stretches out her crampy leg and introduces herself to Hugh, she's...uhhhhhh...what...Scarlett.........incredibly sensually pleasurable on a level that I did not understand until I watched it so closely just now. This is like Scarlett's hottest scene, omgoodness. Scarlett is the dream girl. Nice work, Woody, I totally love Miss Johansson and care about her character in this delightfully energetic whimsical tale with its twist and wonderful familiar score. Trust me, this is a really good film. Scarlett's lovely in Scoop really.
Viewed at Puskin Theater, Budapest, December 7, 2006 ~~ Let's remember Pearls Harbor as we did the Alamo ...Just came from seeing the latest Woody Allen-Scarlett Jo collaboration, "SCOOP". and, -- Well, Woody musta scooped this one up from the bottom of the barrel. Light fare, to say the least --lighter than air on a Sunday afternoon on the Battleship Arizona ... Scarlet --well, yeah --she's easy to look at, but she better look beyond Allen if she wants to get serious about her career. Jack Hughsome --or wuzzit Hugh Jackoff -- Good looking Aussie chap, but little or no screen charisma -- Woody obviously threw this plot together just so he could spend more time following Johansson's lovely little backside around the set for a few more weeks. Didn't find it very funny, and --except for one scene with Scarlett in a skin-tight one-fpiece bathing suit climbing out of a swimming pool -- pretty boring -- but, okay, she's easy on the eyes. The film was so flimsy it was like Chinese takeout in the Jewish neighborhood -- fills you up for five minutes, then you're hungry again -- I actually felt so unsatisfied that I wanted to see a real movie right afterward, but it was too late --as the Pushkin Theater was letting out for the night. Allen was obviously shooting for a Double Double by shooting another one with Scarlett in London but this was truly a sloppy second --- maybe try Nottingham next, with Scarlett as Robin Hood's love interest. ...
Review: This is yet another movie starring Woody Allen were he is rambling on about complete rubbish all the way through the film. The storyline was original but completely silly. Its about a terrible magician, played by Allen, who brings a girl (Johanssen) out of the audience for a magic trick and halfway through the stunt, she gets visited by a dead person who escaped the Grimm Reaper to tell her the true identity of a serial killer. WEIRD! Allen also gets to see the dead person so he joins Johanssen to take down the serial killer. The storyline was really weird but I liked the concept. The main problem is Woody Allen's writing which made the movie more of a silly comedy than a intriguing, murder mystery. Jackman, who plays the accused, had the ability to make his character interesting but the storyline really does go from one extreme to the another. It also didn't help that the film was based in the UK because the rich characters seemed more pompous than interesting. Personally I got fed up with the constant rambling on about trivial matters. I did stick with the film because I thought that it might switch into something serious, but Allen chose to stick with the unfunny theme. Average!Round-Up: With such big names like Johanssen and Jackman, I'm surprised that the budget was so small. Maybe it's because it was made nearly 10 years ago, before Jackman was Wolverine and Johanssen was the Black Widow. Anyway, I personally think that Allen spoilt the movie with his stuttering dialogue and silly humour. I liked Ian McShane, who played the deceased, but he wasn't in the movie that much. I also liked the ending, which was the only proper twist throughout the film, but it wasn't enough to make this film that great. It amazed me that Allen cast Jackman, whose Australian, alongside Johanssen, whose America and he filmed it all in the UK. Jackman does put on a great English accent and he plays pompous quite well, so he blended in with the rest of the English cast. Anyway, this just has to go down as another let down by Allen. Budget: $4million Worldwide Gross: $39millionI recommend this movie to people who are into their drama/thrillers about 2 people trying to work out whose the Tarot Card Killer with the help of a ghost 3/10
I've heard a lot of hate about this movie over the years and can't quite figure out why. Scoop may not be Woody Allen's greatest movie, nor his most intellectual, but does it have to be in order to be recognised as decent at least? Scoop had a lot of the witticisms that Woody is famous for, it had his usual good humour, and even features him as one of the actors playing that bumbling, nervous wreck once again. Yes, it's silly, but so what! It's great fun and isn't half as bad as some of his truly horrible films were.Perhaps the film-making aspects of the film were not too good. It had average acting, at best, the plot wasn't exactly one to save his career after a string of horrible movies, and the direction is little to rave about. I can understand why some may dislike this film, but to down right trash it? This is not Woody's worst film. Let's be honest, we've seen him do a lot worse. It's a decent film at least.
