This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

"My best friend just died, you come out of nowhere, and those things..." Fourteen years after the death of his wife and daughter Michael (Nichols) is forced to revisit the past. When his niece finds a necklace she is attacked and saved by a strange man named Jacob. Soon after, mysteries and secrets are revealed. This is a movie that is for hardcore fans of vampire/demon/zombie type movies. I say that because in order to be able to make it through you have to be fascinated by this type of genre. The acting is horrendous and so distracting that I found it very very difficult to make it through. This is too serious to be a comedy, but not enough to be taken seriously. I was not impressed by this at all, but again, for fans of this type of movie you may like this. Overall, this was almost impossible for me to make it through, but I have never really been all that into this type of movie. I give it a D.

I wont even bother with proper grammar or a proper review, because this movie simply doesn't need one. It is a B-Grade of a B-Graded film, and I will explain why. The camera work first of all, blew my mind away in the sense that almost everyone can feel apart of it and relate so well to the camera work purely because it looked like it was shot out of an iPhone. The special effects? Windows Movie Maker. The dialogue? I'm going to assume the writer ate some Alpha-bits cereal and Shat out the script. I can't write anymore because anymore words for this movie is being generous. However, sitting through this movie does pose as a good challenge to those who dare try. Oh, and it also gives you a few good laughs at the movie, particularly in the scene where some guy comes to save a girl with a little sword and then also when the guy and girl (didn't listen to their names) are climbing a wall to escape the zombies and the camera shot from the top down make you realize "holy crap, how did they climb so damn high, so damn fast?" To be honest, I skipped through it all, so if you manage to like this movie and disagree with this review, good for you.

The pacing of this film is the most dynamic engagement of theatrical action I have seen in quite some time. One of the main questions that had come to mind when I watched this with a few friends was the origins of the naming from the characters. We were curious about any biblical terminology that could have been potentially associated with the names Jacob and Sarah. Not to mention the whole scenario of Jacob being brought back from the dead, or rather "resurrected." Then there is the concept of having a sword that hones the almighty power of good and destroys all evil that it faces. There is a complex turn in the character mythology as the dichotomy of Jacob and Mathias is revealed by one of the strongest components of the storyline, as Jacob turns evil as the movie closes, leaving a cliffhanger of what could potentially spawn a dramatic context change if they make any sequels. It was a brave choice for Jordan Matthews to take on a role where he turns evil at the end, going toe to toe with one of the masters of evil, Brad Dourif, the voice of Chucky. I was surprised to see Thomas Ian Nicholas take on a role completely separate from his work in the comedy genre as well. It reminded me of when I begin to greatly respect his work in movies like Rules Of Attraction

I was initially unsure about some of the cast. I've only seen Thomas Ian Nicholas do comedies, I've never seen the actress who played Sarah but have looked her up to find mostly TV credits. The lead actor who played Jacob was apparently an unknown theater actor from New York but I wasn't sure if he was just going to be another pretty boy from my first view of the trailer. New York theater is the highest credential an actor can have but you never know. All the big young actors today have zero acting credibility and I'm always looking for the next Johnny Depp or Leonardo DiCaprio. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised as you usually don't see new young actors take on roles where they get bloodied up and ugly. What sold me on the movie was the superhero action. I'd say the last 20 to 25 minutes of the film are the most entertaining in an edge of your seat kind of way. The battle between Jacob and Mathias at the very end was the best part, followed every so closely by the scene of Jacob taking on the onslaught of zombies just beforehand. The rest of the acting was kind of weak but no different than a movie like Cloverfield, Halloween, or Friday the 13th. The movie was much better than the Nightmare On Elm Street remake but the storyline itself was confusing at times. There was a lot of cutting back between the small town parts which I thought were boring and the more epic action scenes. The only cool part of the "town" scenes was watching Sarah hack away at Maggie's face when she turns into a zombie. The pacing was great and Brad Douirf had some sinister moments on screen. I first had the impression that he was playing another Grima Wormtongue role. But Mathias is a more commanding character and it's the lead bad. Grima was just a bit part. Overall, a cool film with some cool new characters. My favorite character was Jacob because of the blood and you don't see enough heroes with swords these days, we're too often overexposed to gun use (maybe the NRA has a deal with the movie industry).
