The Pest
Fast-talking Latino con artist Pestario "Pest" Vargas is the target of Scottish mobsters to whom he owes a considerable debt. Willing to do anything to raise money and avoid severe injury or death, Vargas agrees to a very unusual job -- he will be transported to a remote island and hunted by Gustav Shank, a racist German executive. If he can survive a full day and night, Vargas gets $50,000 and will be set free. Is he wily enough to elude Shank?

Absolutely Fantastic
A Disappointing Continuation
It's a difficult undertaking for someone of my generation to watch a film like The Pest. Not because it's "too old" or "too boring", but because it has been hailed--almost universally--as the single best motion picture ever made. And while the anticipation of seeing a film with such overwhelming acclaim may be quite exhilarating, actually watching it is ultimately an intimidating and somewhat disappointing experience. But what exactly is so special about it? Is it its great genre mix, never equaled by another film? When we think of 'The Pest' first, we remember it as a romantic film (well, most of us do). But then again, its also a drama involving terror, murder and flight. One can call it a character study, centering on Pest. And there are quite a few moments of comedic delight like the plane scene and when Louis Theroux appeared. What makes this film so powerful is the message that it made at the time of its release. This film came out at a height of paranoia of the nuclear age and the Cold War, right around the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis. This film depicts a horrible, tragic incident in which a breach in the government and a few diplomatic mistakes result in nuclear holocaust. So, why didn't this film inspire panic? Because of the brilliant way in which Miller presents it... as a satire. The scariest thing about this film in retrospect is not how it depicts the impending doom of the Cold War, but how it makes you laugh at it. By presenting it with humor, it conveys just how much of a farce the nuclear arms race was in real life. And I don't think that any other film has captured the absurdity of war nearly as well as this one has. And I am not likely to believe that one ever will. In my opinion, Paul Miller has never made a better film since. And kudos to John for his astounding performance, as well as Brendan Frasier for the most versatile acting I've seen from an actor in one film. Beware of fluoridation!
The Pest (1997): Dir: Paul Miller / Cast: John Leguizamo, Jeffrey Jones, Joe Morton, Aries Spears, Freddy Rodriguez: Pointless and stupid comedy with a character named Pest who seems like a relative of Ace Ventura. Idiot plot has him picked for a manhunt to which if he survives he receives $50, 000, which is exactly what he owes the Scottish mob. Production is cheap with vulgar humour including a scene where Pest pukes in full view of the camera before his friend pukes in his face. Is this suppose to be funny? How about the scene where this idiot takes a dump while a deer observes from a distance. Stupidity hits its strongest once he is hunted back to the city where his girlfriend and family are kidnapped. Director Paul Miller displays little talent especially when opening the film like a music video with Pest making vulgar noises in the shower. John Leguizamo plays Pest as an idiot who mugs every scene shamelessly. His performance is so bad that it makes Jim Carrey's work in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective look award worthy. Jeffrey Jones is every bit as bad as the man hunting Pest. Is this guy for real? Jones is at the mercy of material that presents him as the dumbest villain in film history. Thankfully Ferris Bueller's Day Off demonstrates what a terrific comedic villain he can portray. Video outlets will need an exterminator to vanquish this garbage so that it doesn't pollute the screens of innocent people. Score: 0 / 10
This is by far the most genius compilation of impressions and comedy all rolled into one fantastic film. unfortunately there will be no sequel to this film however i don't mind watching it again and again considering the intense caliber of this masterpiece. The acting was astonishing and the characters were portrayed extremely well. Although some parts of the movie may have seemed ridiculous, they just added to the comedy, making it more enjoyable. For all you haters out there go read a book, or count your snot collection, until you find a decent sense of humor. until next time, if you don't have anything good to say eat a donut. that way we don't have to listen to you
I actually liked this movie I just bought it a few days ago I admit that the fart jokes are pretty bad and embarrassing to watch. That aside this is a great movie to sit down and watch on a late Friday night. I think that the characters are fantastic I love Himmle, Ninja, Pest, Chubs, Scotish Mob, and just about everybody else. At a few points in the movie I think it moves a little fast but it adds to the off the wall humor that I really enjoy. Some of Johns impressions are a little stupid but for the most part I actually enjoyed them such as The delivery boy at the beginning of the movie. Also how can you not like Chubs and Ninja? They are very lovable characters that really add to the story. Overall the story seems a little rushed sometimes and half the time I think that the characters should just pop in saying "What the plot holes going on here!?" But it's still a great movie and I think you can enjoy it lots if you just sit back get some snacks and hit play.
