Absolutely the worst movie.
A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
What is Bill Maher doing here? Why is he making a propaganda documentary about God and His non-existence?Is a political humorist and author qualified enough to make a case against religion particularly Christianity and Islam? Well,Religulous - a contraction of the words Religion and Ridiculous together - is a documentary made by Bill Maher that would like to make a case against religion. He does this by interviewing people about God around the world particularly about religion and their religious beliefs. He tries to get a range of views about world religion as he travels to familiar places such as Jerusalem, the Vatican,Creation Museum,Holy Land and Salt Lake City.He talks to Jews,Catholics and Protestants about Jesus and the Bible. He also tries to speak to Muslims about Muhammad and Allah and makes a case against their beliefs. Finally,he also travels to London and tries to make a case as well against Scientology being a crazy religion. Apparently,he tries to exhibit his analytic skills, wit and a commitment to pull a punch in his so-called "spiritual journey" to educate people against religion.Well, what can I say.I consider this more of a COMEDIC SKIT rather than a documentary about world religion. The first thing it does not talk about is God which simply makes it an extremely weak documentary. What's worse,it does not even talk about people's faith in God which even makes it a very weak.Instead,Mr Maher makes fun of people's religious beliefs and the things written in religious texts such as the Bible and the Koran. His irreverence simply makes it even more silly and not worthwhile to watch. In the end,it became more of an insult to people who have religions rather than study on why people have religions.Even atheists, agnostics and apostates would feel insulted as well considering they are made fun of by Mr. Maher as he makes a SILLY CASE AGAINST WORLD RELIGION.Overall,it simply lacks wit and intelligence that Mr. Maher is supposedly known for.One advice I could say is:Stick to politics,Mr Maher!!!!!
How did I never heard about this gem before? A friend that knows I am a convinced atheist told me I had to watch this and that I would like it. 8 years after the making of Religulous I finally had someone that told me about it and oh was I pleased! I literally had a smile on my face from beginning till the end. Bill Maher asks the perfect questions to the believers of any stupid religion and their answers are just hilarious. The fact that you can see that they know they are wrong, when Bill Maher replies to their answers with a silly but true answer or question is just hilarious. This is by far the best documentary I ever saw on any subject. It's not about getting a proof about the existence of a God, but just the opposite. It's about making the people see they are scammed since centuries and they continue being scammed now. Most of them actually know it but are just too afraid of death you could make them make believe whatever you want. Some are just eternal idiots that will never change their mind about religions, but those are also not the smartest puppy out of the litter let's say. If you are like me a convinced atheist you will adore this movie. If you are a believer of whatever religion, you will be or ashamed you ever believed in those nonsenses, or it will open your eyes and you will change your mind, or you will be scandalized and will continue being a dumb sheep of society.
Doesn't matter whether you have religions or not, you should watch this movie, it talks about how people see in religions and how much most of people understand religions, and what it brings to people in the end. This movie will show you the other side of religion which most people can not usually see. In a very funny way, well because of Bill Maher, so you can imaging the comedy impact inside of this movie. There are a lots of interviewed and smart talks in this movie, with religious people, the people work for religions, sincerest, workers, public speech man, and so on. You will have a chance to see what all of these people have to say about what the believes, its a very smart movie with a good point. It's opened my eyes, although I am kind of neutral at this point. This movie had changed some of my opinions of the view about religions, I understand it's maybe not everybody's thing, but worth to give it a try.
What do you get when you debate people that know little to nothing about the position they are defending? This movie. It's like watching someone beating up children. Does Bill interview theologians, professors, apologists, or any leading scholars in faith? No, he picks on idiots. (Ken Hamm is NOT a leading Christian scholar.) This is called a Strawman fallacy. Congratulations Bill. You defended Atheism by debating truckers. Impressive. Now, in fairness one could argue that his point is that the average person of faith doesn't know much about their faith. I would agree that this is often the case for religion, as well as in Atheism, politics, cooking and so on. However this doesn't prove a religion wrong. It only proves that many people don't bother to educate themselves on the issues to which they ascribe. I feel that this film is deliberately deceptive and manipulative.
