Perfect cast and a good story
It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
This film, if it can be called one, can be basically described as 'the awful invention of a script' to trash God and believers. The movie has been created by people with so little imagination that everyone keeps repeating two lines -- "short fat kids with stub noses" and "the man in the sky" countless number of times. I wonder how anyone can venture to make a movie with such limited imagination. It looks like an amateur attempt at movie making, completed in a few days with minimum people. Obviously, those behind the script, screenplay and direction have been gifted very little with creativity by "the man in the sky". If you have time to waste, please go try counting waves that lash on the beach. And if you have money to waste just put it through a paper shredder. But definitely, don't waste a nickel on this apology of a movie.
Recommended by a friend i gave this movie a shot. He only told me the idea behind the plot. A perfect world where no one is lying and a guy by accident invents it. This sounded really interesting and I wanted to see the movie in a second. In my head I had a lot of different possibilities what they could have included into the movie. Unfortunately the whole movie turned out to be kinda boring. Some funny situations and scenes helped me through it but i definitely would not look it again. I was disappointed of how they took this promising idea and turn it into a boring story.Although some scenes made me smile, not a too bad rating.I recommend the movie if you do not have anything else one your watch-list and want to see a no-brainer.
I think the concept is extremely smart. The cast is great and I really enjoyed watching the movie. Also the movie focused on two important parts the we see everyday:1-Judging other people from how they look. (Loser, fat, successful, bad husband ... etc) 2-How dangerous religion (whatever the religion is) can be, when it's not something personal. It discusses how you can be controlled and manipulated your whole life by someone who MIGHT be lying. **IMPORTANT** Just to be honest, if you feel offended by watching sarcastic scenes about religions, then I wouldn't recommend this movie for you.
This was a solid movie. Ricky Gervais, who i really like from The Office and Idiot Abroad is the lead character, a man who lives in a world where lying is impossible to do...until he starts doing it. A few lies later and he has lots of money and fame. However, much of the fame is due to him being able to talk to "the man in the clouds". Jennifer Garner who, normally i enjoy was a little off in this film, the fit just didn't seem right. There were plenty of guest stars in this film that were a pleasant surprise. This film made me think a lot about how we live our lives. In terms of the rules that are established and how we view the world. There were a few bits where i was amused but it's really not a laugh out loud movie.7/10 I enjoyed the film overall but the main characters were all just okay, no one really stood out. Lots to ponder in this film and the plot gets a little silly at times.
