Slow pace in the most part of the movie.
Simply A Masterpiece
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Well, with a cast that includes Dolph Lundgren and Steve Austin it is no secret that this is a movie targeted for a male audience, and you know it is going to be a testosterone-filled movie. However, director Jesse V. Johnson just didn't fully manage to deliver a package, pardon the pun, that would actually suffice and live up to whatever expectations there might have been given the cast list. The story is about Tommy Wick (played by Steve Austin) who is hired to deliver a package to 'The German' (played by Dolph Lundgren). But getting from point A to point B is more difficult than it would seem, as the gangsters and other bad guys just come at him from every direction at any given time of the day.Indeed, the storyline in "The Package" was nothing impressive, and it was so simple that it was bordering on being insulting to the audience. "The Package" offered nothing, absolutely nothing, to the audience that haven't already been done, seen or tried in other similar movies. And it didn't really help the movie out one bit to have Steve Austin in the lead and watch him run around beating up people whenever his acting skills wouldn't suffice; needless to say that he does a lot of beating up people in "The Package".The acting sequences were not particularly memorable, and I can't really claim to be impressed with Steve Austin's fighting or acting skills. However, it was nice to see Dolph Lundgren in a sadistic bad guy role for a change."The Package" is an action movie that come a dozen a dime. These movies are spewed out constantly, and it failed to stand out in the many other movies that essentially offer the same. It simply came and went without leaving any lasting mark or impression. This was mediocre entertainment in every sense of those words. Four out of ten stars, generously given solely because I grew up with watching Dolph Lundgren action movies.
I have to wonder whether The Package (not to be confused with the feature-length film by the same name produced about twenty years earlier) was directed by an "artiste" whose area of specialization is pornography. I say this because the cartoonishness of the characters and the general stupidity of the dialogue and plot, conjoined with the stereotypical and wooden acting, typically come together in the lowest of all low-budget genres: cheap pornography. When I saw these stats, I became even more convinced that the director usually does porn:Opening Weekend: $1,095 (USA) (15 February 2013) Gross: $1,277 (USA) (15 February 2013)Seriously? How can these numbers possibly be correct? The actors all volunteered for their roles? Maybe because they are all porn stars and were hoping to break into mainstream Hollywood, if only someone in the business had the opportunity to see them in all their glory on the big screen? Well, anyway, whatever the explanation, this attempt at a movie is a very low-brow, minimal intelligence production which aspires to be a high-energy action flick but fails. Just bad. In fact, on reflection, I should probably change my rating from 2 to 1. Done.
It is always in people's nature to put down great things and to nit-pick or sometimes just be plain mean. No matter what anyone says, this is utterly fantastic. This is not only an eye-popping cinematic treat, but one of the greatest stories ever put on celluloid. The pragmatic may think The Package overly dramatic; the restless may find it too long. None of this, however, detracts from the fact that The Package retains a lasting appeal as one of the crowning cinematic achievements of 2012. Whether we like the film, or not, one has to recognize the greatest achievement, perhaps, of the creative talent of the people working in the movie industry.
A rather moderate B-movie. They made action movies like this in the 80' with the dozen. I think nowadays it's a new hype to gather all the old action heroes who are thinking about their retirement plan already in a movie (Other examples are Expendables and The Last stand). Dolf Lundgren still speaks as slow as a snail and Steve Austin still looks like a walking wardrobe, Louis XIV style or so.The action was sometimes very fake and the story with the blood type was far-fetched and unbelievable. Like Dolf said: "The chance of finding a match is almost non-existent ..." but accidentally Steve is in the neighborhood. And they know each other from the past ... what a coincidence. An unfortunate spectacle and probably the last feats of arms in cinematic terms of both gentlemen! PS. I've always wanted to know how the mechanism of a bowling alley worked in reality. At least something I've learned of this movie ! More reviews at http://opinion-as-a-moviefreak.blogspot.be/
