Very Cool!!!
That was an excellent one.
Sorry, this movie sucks
A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
So, The Prince & Me could have your typical rom-com plot. We have the prince who wants to blend in with U.S students, then meets a girl who he falls in love with. We have the comedic moments, we have the geeky roommate who plays Halo for most of the day. Yeah, we have all that. To be honest, I didn't really find anything hateable about this movie. I mean, yeah, we have the typical plot, but to be fair, it felt harmless. However, after the "misunderstanding" happens, the movie keeps going for another hour, and basically, it shows what happens when Paige, the main character, goes with Edward again. At this point, I just wanted the movie to end, because we have to see all these things happening that I do not care about. Seriously, couldn't you just have the entire first half be the entire movie, then end it with Paige being queen with Edward? But wait, without that, we wouldn't have Paige wanting to go home to live her own life..which by the way, kind of doesn't go anywhere, as 4 minutes later, the movie ends with her accepting Edward's proposal in marriage again. So, this might be a short review, but to be honest, this was kind of a jumbled-up mess. What could've been a simple plot, and possibly a cute movie, just drags on for nearly 2 hours.
This movie surprised me because despite its teen audience draw and unoriginal Cinderella storyline I really liked it. Maybe I was drawn in by the romantic wish-fulfilment fantasy as I'm far from the target audience but the story grew on me (initially I wasn't that impressed).By the end though I was really rooting for our couple and actually unsure as to how they were going to get their HEA. I also appreciated how they addressed the fact that pre-med student 'Paige' would be giving up her entire life for her prince and that maybe, as glamorous as it seemed this wasn't the life she wanted. I always enjoy Julia Stilles and she does a good job here. The story is an opposites attract, modern day fairytale following a bookish, farm girl senior who falls for a cocky exchange student at a Wisconsin college, unaware that he is really the prince of Denmark.Luke Mably plays prince Edvard and I hated him in the beginning but genuinely came to like the character he became. There were some funny moments here, good secondary characters and I found that despite the fairy tale quality of the story it wasn't clichéd. The lawnmower race for example was fun and a unique aspect as "Eddie goes to stay with Paige's family on their farm. I also enjoyed Edvard's man servant, his addiction to video games.I did get quite wrapped up in the romance here and thought that the outcome was actually bittersweet involving sacrifice. 5/17/15
Seriously - I couldn't even stomach watching the whole thing. The performances are static and the dialogue is jarring. The plot is three steps over the line of predictability (and not in a good way like some rom coms done well) I was sitting cringing at the start of every scene as you saw a constant regurgitation of anti-climatic cliché scenarios and lines. I made it to just over 40 minutes without simultaneously stabbing myself in the eardrum and eye which I think is an achievement! In conclusion I would just like to say that Julia Styles hit her mark in 10 Things I Hate About You (a predictable rom com that defined my teenage years)and should have given up acting at that point.
I don't think this has any spoilers, but I'll check that box just to be safe. Okay. It's a cute movie. I like it, it's definitely a great feel good movie for teenage girls/ young women. But being a Wisconsinite (born and raised) I really don't enjoy how they portray not only my state, but the people in my state. First off, we do not wear that much plaid and/or flannel and yes there is a difference. Second, I have never heard of an actual lawn mower race happening, and I'm about to graduate from a school where a few of the hicks actually drive their tractors to school at the end of the year. It's half because they like their tractors and half because it makes the whole school smell like manure. We do have tractor pulls where there's one concession stand run by our FFA members and no charming lines of hay bales. Also, that farm in the movie is just really bad. Actual farms (especially those barns) are not that clean, and I know this movie is ten years old, but that farm isn't struggling because it's family owned and run, it's struggling because they haven't invested in new, efficient equipment that ends up paying for itself. And I don't live on a farm, so I guess I could be wrong about all this, but my dad did grow up on a farm and my house is surrounded by them, so I'm probably right. Also, a farmer would never let anyone that inexperienced try to calm/direct their cows. That's a major injury and possible lawsuit on their hands. Also, her two brothers seem so... idiotic. I don't know if that was on purpose, and if it was then I don't know if it was because they're farm boys, but it really bothers me. My dad and his 13 siblings grew up on their farm, and now as adults all of them are successful and at least two of them are millionaires, just like one of my favorite neighbors, who's actually a farmer worth millions of dollars, all from working his family owned and run farm. That's about all I can think of, otherwise it's pretty cute. Just, please take everything with a grain of salt!
