Purely Joyful Movie!
I'll tell you why so serious
Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast
It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
I was hoping for a little more out of Quarantine. The first half of the movie was a complete bore and I had to try to convince myself to keep watching in hopes that it would improve. I was glad I continued watching because it did get more intriguing. The story of the outbreak of a ravenous disease was nothing new, but being locked into an apartment building gave a new claustrophobic twist to the plot. And when all contact to the outside is cut off and the power is shut down, the chaotic pursuit of survival ensues. I won't give away any of the suspense, so check out this pretty decent horror flick for yourself. I give it 6 stars. I hope this review was helpful. -MovieJuice
Yes, this movie is almost a one-to-one image conversion of the Spanish movie REC. So was this movie necessary? Strictly speaking no. But I found myself still entertained. The plot is just as simple as the original: A TV crew gets stuck with some firemen in a large apartment house that is the heart of a zombie outbreak.QUARANTINE does depart in some interesting ways from REC. There's a bit more character development at the beginning, with more time at the fire station to get to know everybody. That's a welcome addition! And the characters do feel pretty real. The female protagonist in particular is quite believable and does carry the movie quite well (the burden is on her, since we see her most of the time). I also liked that QUARANTINE strengthened the role of animals in the movie, and I also felt more "locked in" ... The Spanish version of the movie is overall definitely better at conveying a genuine sense of terror towards the end of the movie, and of course, it had the benefit of being the first, the true innovator. When I saw REC, I did not know what to expect. Since QUARANTINE is essentially a copy with some minor changes, the surprise was gone.Of course, just like with the original, you have to like found footage movies. QUARANTINE definitely has a lot of shaky camera and a lot of the things that are quite typical of found footage movies, such as the camera falling down or things just being dark or soundless. That said, like any good found footage movie QUARANTINE has a few ingenious things that happen with the "first person" perspective, which you'll appreciate if you're a fan of the "genre". Found footage is jarring and at times irritating for sure, but it also always adds a sense of physicality that I really like.So all in all, QUARANTINE is a fun and sometimes scary thrill ride. Nothing world- changing, but still worth your time... if you can stand found footage.
Quarantine was a terrifying roller-coaster ride: there were so many jumpscares moments, it was a surprise that my racing heart hadn't recovered from all the banging against my ribcage. I applaud Jennifer Carpenter's performance: she was convincing, and she has proved to be a candidate for a Scream Queen. I feel like she was never off-key.I actually watched Quarantine before I watched the original Spanish REC. And though I enjoyed Quarantine, REC was superior; it seemed more authentic. But as I said: Quarantine was a terrifying roller-coaster ride, just like REC, and I would say it is worth a watch, and, perhaps, a rewatch.
I do like some virus types of movies but this one was not my thing. It's not totally bad - not the worst film I've ever seen but it's not a top-notch virus type of film.I realize that some people thoroughly enjoyed the film and others totally hated it. So, I went into watching this film that I would hate it before I even watched it. The outcome: Well I don't hate the movie instead I say "meh, it's OK." I've never seen the original - which I may like better - so I have nothing to compare this remake to. I am simply going by what I like and don't like.5/10
