It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

This movie starts with the scene that a child witnesses a man being killed by the two murderers in a restroom. The child and his mother are chased by two killers because of the witness, so the detective helps them an pd lives in a country. I was very impressed with the scene that the boy witnesses the crime. One of the murderers checks all toilets when he hears the sound. The kid barely escape from the danger, but I can feel his tension from his expression. I was also scared that the killer peeps into a gap between the door and the floor. The camera angle makes me more horrible and tense. It was also memorable for me that the detective and the kid's mother run to and hug each other. I can feel they really love one another. and the impulse of their love makes them do such a passionate action from their serious expression. I like this movie because I can enjoy the tension of the detective, the mother ,and a kid. I can forget their tense expectations. I also enjoyed the heartbreaking love since I cannot imagine the ending of the two people.

An Amish boy Samuel witnesses a murder case in Philadelphia when he goes to Baltimore with his mother Rachel. John Book, a police detective, hides in Amish village with them when the killers come after them. This film has both suspense and human drama aspects.Pictures of this film is very beautiful and Maurice Jarre's soundtrack is also excellent.I didn't know the existence of "Amish" until I watched this film. I like an atmosphere of a quiet and pastoral Amish life and envy their self-sufficient life.I could enter the world of Amish easily through this film. I think that the Amish beautiful life is a contrast with the horrible murder case. There are a lot of memorable scenes in this film, but I was especially impressed by the scene where John Book builds a shed with Amish people. It is wonderful to make something cooperating with companions.I think that cross-cultural understanding is difficult and it is important to accept difference each other.

Australian director Peter Weir has a knack for bringing a fresh perspective to established actors. Here it's Harrison Ford, and in the 90s it was with Jim Carrey in The Truman Show.I love Witness and the performances of all. Danny Glover was a corrupt cop here, before he became a clean cop in Lethal Weapon a few years later. Also Patti LuPone shines, a few years before she featured in Life Goes On, one of the best TV series ever. One of my favorite scenes is when John Book (Harrison Ford) punches out the teenage gang who pick on the Amish. That is a YouTube moment big time!

This movie may have been well received in the mid 80's but unfortunately it doesn't hold up to well. It's a very slow paced and uneventful movie, that being said it's not necessarily a bad movie. The movie follows the seemingly pointless hiding in an Amish community of a detective (Harrison Ford) who is investigating a murder witnessed by a young boy from the community. During his stay Ford falls for the mother of the child (Kelly McGillis) which serves no more purpose then to give us a god awful dance scene and inevitable forbidden love scenario, the one good thing to come out of this arrangement is the obligatory 80's tit shot. The films 3rd act is no better or worse then the proceeding two before it, winding down with two murders and a stern talking to as it's climax this movie leaves you with a feeling of mediocre satisfaction because while the plot and script are paper thin the acting is quite good.Featured on episode 57 of The Emerald Reprobates Podcast.
