Highly Overrated But Still Good
Best movie ever!
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Standard: whenever a horror film has a high rating, it invariably turns out to be crap. If you prefer to be alternately bored (the damn thing is almost two hours) but also flabbergasted by the most asinine plot imaginable, watch this garbage. Just don't go whining to me that I hadn't warned you. It's not a real comedy. It's just a highly cretinous thriller with the usual sub-standard Kiwi humour thrown in occasionally. The plot-twists are mind-boggling in their imbecility, starting from the guy who's been living - undetected - within the walls of the house for years (living on air and worms?), then the junkie who doesn't lose her house-arrest privileges even after numerous incidents (including stabbing a man with scissors), all the way to the intelligence-insulting twist that gives us the SOCIAL WORKER as the girl's killer. Utter rubbish in every conceivable way, with so many plot holes that it's the movie equivalent of cheese. Avoids the lowest rating for the peeing scene.
Both funny, and scary! I really enjoyed it, i found the plot smart and i recommend it!
👍👍 4/4 **** This's not that sort of movie that is easy to adapt and understand. It is wonderfully packed with such flawless performance of every crew involved in the movie. All the few characters are very well scripted. Why do we watch a movie? To be entertained and we know in the thrill that nothing is real. And later we make such fun of the horrors and mystery we see on screen. But this's such a movie that is already subconsciously make you feel relaxed with its mockery of the entertainment. Gerrard Johnstone is not one of those known directors. He's young and yet intelligent enough to capture the essence of making a movie that is so dark, so thrilling, so emotional and so much sarcastic in such serious scenes. We experience something surreal in the whole movie that needs a little patience to get used to.
It's inconceivable to me how anyone could give this movie higher than a 1 star rating. It's terrible. An awful muddled mess of juvenile gross out humor and stupid plotting. I bought this movie based on all the glowing 4 and 5 star reviews it got here and on netflix, boy was i ever ripped off. I should have known better. When the reviews on the box cover state, "You have a new favorite haunted house movie!" that's a pretty colossal claim, such a movie would have to outbest classics like Poltergeist and The Haunting by huge, unfathomable amounts. So I should have known better. NOt only was it NOT a good haunted house movie, it isn't even really about a haunted house. What a goofy plot. Some stupid stoner doofus living inside a secret room for 20 -30 years, yeah right, and nobody notices? That's so lame and ridiculous. And on top of that, there's some silly thing about a talking Teddy Ruxpin doll that makes no sense, because you cannot hear one thing or make out what it is saying at all, it's too distorted and in some other language or something. And then the detective listens to the Teddy Ruxpin tape, and something supposedly is revealed by it, but who knows what since you can't hear the tape and it's all muddled and impossible to understand. And the main character is a nasty despicable piece of white trash dung. A real scumbag. It was just plain horrible, awful, a piece of cinematic garbage.
