Monsters
Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear and half of Mexico was quarantined as an infected zone. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain "the creatures," while a journalist agrees to escort a shaken tourist through the infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the U.S. border.

a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.
This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
Really enjoyed the premise and was quite intense in spots. Did not understand the end of the movie. So I dropped a star for that.
Warning: mild spoilers.Let's list the pros: + Visuals are pretty good. Electric egg pods are fun to look at. Great scenic shots. Like visiting the Yucatan without leaving your couch. + At least Mystery Science Theatre has fresh new content. And that's about it. Now the cons: Characters completely unlikable. As in, they start off terrible: cold, cynical and reserved. At the end, they are interested in each other. But they've made no sacrifices. They've made no transformation. They survived and watched aliens get nookie. Predictable-as-hell story. "Oh, they didn't get on the boat?" "They will have to go by land?" "They will learn something about the aliens on the way?" "There will be danger?" "They will be surprised when they get to the wall?" "Is America not everything they thought it would be?"Paints Americans as s**t tourists. Because tourists like "Andrew" exist: assuming the entire world speaks English, and therefore starts every sentence in that language. But seriously, it's obnoxious to watch, and adds no meaningful value to the overall program. The scripting is terrible. Somebody should have taken the script and ran it through Grammarly. The romance is forced. I've seen two paperclips have deeper passion than these two. The aliens are unoriginal. Electric. Octopus. Sharks with Lasers would have at least been more fun to watch.Clearly, I was not a fan. Hard pass.
If you enjoy staring at two pretty nobodies ad-libbing about whether or not they might want to pork one day whilst travelling across Mexico, with poor CGI monsters you only ever get to see occasionally hinted at in uber dark and mushy night scenes to hide the effects from criticism, then this movie is for you, if however you were hoping for action, adventure and some actual monsters in your monster movie, then no.Blair Witch with slightly better production values and just as much pay off for your time.
Alien monsters exist and they are on earth, while governments and their armies are at war the ordinary person on the street is living in war zones. A journalist agrees to escort one of his boss's daughters across the Mexico/America border through the war zone. This movie was apparently made on a shoe string budget but doesn't often look cheap. As far as visual style and acting go they are pretty average enough to not offend, even if you never really see a monster properly. The main problem that I found was that this film was boring in places and went on far too long. This felt more of a voyage of discovering two characters rather than anything to do with Monsters, the suspense and scares were far too apart to cause any lasting emotion. As the film dragged on I kept wanting one of the character to get eaten to make things more lively, alas this didn't happen. Don't expect a thrill-a-minute ride, not much happens; they talk, they hide, they talk, they run, they talk, they cross the border, they talk. Maybe this film tries to be too clever by implying metaphors and coincidences and thus becomes pretentious, either way I stopped caring because it was soo limp and boring. I'm glad I won't have to watch this one again.
