A Heffley family road trip to attend Meemaw's 90th birthday party goes hilariously off course thanks to Greg's newest scheme to get to a video gaming convention.

It is a performances centric movie
Excellent adaptation.
Don't listen to the negative reviews
This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
Greg, 12 years old and the middle brother with an almost-toddler younger brother and an idiot-psycho-teenager older brother, is taken on a road trip by his mother who is determinedAfter 3 tolerably entertaining family movies, the franchise has been recast - we have 5 new actors playing Greg, his parents, and his older and younger brothers. I do not think the recasting is an improvement. This is especially so in the case of older brother Roderick who is now played by a young actor who clearly has oriental family somewhere in his near past. I don't have a problem with this, but it does make you raise your eyebrows a bit.The story is dumb (especially the ongoing plot thread concerning Greg falling foul of a large bearded fellow on broadly the same itinerary. I know the crux of the plaot is Greg getting into trouble, but this was just so stupid as to defy credibility. This was a criticism which could be levelled at the whole film. The previous ones were more or less believable, this one was not.Even if it had been funny, I think I would still have balked somewhat at a kids/family film where one of the gags was Greg sitting on the other side of a shower curtain, listening to graphic sounds of defecation from two feet away. Farts are one thing, t*rds plopping into the toilet are something quite other. It was weird seeing Alicia Silverstone, once a sexy nymphet, now playing A middle-aged Mum. One thing stays the same, though: her mouth still has a strange sort of half-life of its own. This film could have been a lot better. A LOT better. But it wasn't.
OK, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies are good, well only the first 3. But when The Long Haul hit the movies, it was a very long haul. First thing I'd like to talk about is the recast. The recast was a super bad idea. Some characters have changes in personalities. First Rodrick used to be a very very cool big 16 year old brother, but when you look at him in the movie, he is a complete jerk. Some jerkish stuff includes locking a pizza in the safe, trying to take a picture on his iPhone from Manny's pacifier even though Susan said no, and getting pulled over by the cops from saying that the Heffly's are kidnapping Greg, Manny, and himself. Frank used to focus more on work than family, but in the movie, he focus more on family than work. This could be a good thing, but also a bad thing. Susan used to like her family, but now, she yells. Rowley used visit Greg a lot, but this time, he only appeared ONCE. At the beginning of the movie. Is it because Greg and Rowley are no longer becoming friends? Next is there are way too many pee, poop, vomit, and fart jokes. All of them are Greg peeing in a lemonade bottle, the pig pooping in Manny's potty, Greg walking in on Frank using the toilet, Rodrick barfs on Mr. Beardo in a carnival ride, and Mr. Beardo pooping in the toilet loudly while Greg is hiding in the shower. YUCK!!!! The last thing is the story, In the book, the Heffleys decide to go to the beach but did not make it, but in the film, they went to Memaws 90th birthday party. DID THEY EVEN READ THE BOOK FIRST?!?!?!?!?!?!?
When i decided to watch this i was expecting something so bad that i can laugh at, but instead i got a movie so bad that it was annoying. The acting is terrible, the story is the most cliched and predictable thing a writer can come up with, and the music...my god.The thing that annoyed me the most is the music. It plays constantly. I can't think of a single scene that doesn't have music or some kind of sound effect. Even though the earlier films aren't good by any stretch of the word, they at least didn't play music whenever something embarrassing or what they thing is funny happens.Another thing that was infuriating was the constant electronic references. It's obvious that the writers think they're writing something that the kids would relate to, but instead it seems like they haven't touched an iphone or anything that requires a battery.I wouldn't recommend this to anyone including children and not even people who want to laugh at a terrible movie. The only reason i'm not giving this a 2 or 1 is because I've seen worse movies. That doesn't excuse this film though.
One of the best family movies i ever seen. This movie is very similar to Vacation or Griswalds family adventure Of the all four parts (counting this) this one is the funniest and the best. But you have to see them all because it has a part of the old one in every one. This movie is suitable for kids from 10 to 12 years old. Movie is like a real life surprises and arguments
