Just perfect...
Good movie but grossly overrated
A Masterpiece!
A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
The writing is just plain bad. It makes no sense. Teen girl steals a handgun (not likely w/ police holster design) and shoots two cops - No one calls her stalking target? Someone's meds get messed up and they don't immediately assume it's the volunteer who was there for just that day? For that matter, they let a volunteer even close to patients and medication? If there's one thing that grinds my gears its unrealistic characters and badly written plot. I understand that the director/writers probably aren't experienced with writing and human interaction and plot, but at least try. Ask a few four year olds what they think of your plot - if they have any questions you can answer or think your plot isn't believable, consider revising.Clippy the paper clip could provide a better script than this "movie".Oh, and the acting is pretty bad, but that might be the writing.
Yup, that sums it up. Think 'Attraction' but this time with a highschool suburb setting and teenagers in the three leads. The late 90s and early 2000s came up with many teen movie adaptations. Another example is 'Cruel Intentions'. Now 'Swimfan' whether it's a homage, ripoff, remake or whatever you want to call it, follows the usually predictable storyline. Guy and girl are together in love. A newcomer femme fatale seduces the guy in a swimming pool. Guy regrets it almost immediately after shagging her and breaks it off. But of course, femme fatale won't take no for an answer. Yup, it's clichéd, uninventive, hackneyed and quite bad but the performances are quite above average. Erika Christensen plays the femme fatale in accordance with the formula but there are moments were her performance is restrained and that's where her acting is noticeable. Shiri Appleby is vivacious even though her character is poorly developed. Jesse Bradford stands out as Ben,the guy who has everything going for him and then one mistake pulls his life apart. 'Swimfan' is definitely a movie for those who are interested in 'High School Fatal Attraction'.
A rather poor story. Two nice young people love each other. The boy is in the swimming team and the girl is happily going along in her life of work and school. Then a vulture arrives. She is blonde, she is cannibalistic, she is ready to kill to possess what she wants and she does not take no as an answer to her orders. Then the boy says yes under pressure and she will not accept his no later on and will kill everything she can lay her hands on : friends, girl friend, mother, and the list could go on forever. The boy, with the help of a couple of people, bait that vulture with the coat of one she had tried to kill, and she is tricked into revealing her real identity, and even so she is not finished and she takes advantage of an amateurish cop to commit a couple more crime. What do we get out of this melodramatic horror? A complete feeling of emptiness that gives you a taste of ashes in your mouth, the ashes of something that is dead somewhere. Crime is never mechanical. To kill someone requires some imagination. In this case it is nothing but a bad habit that no one can cut out of her.Dr Jacques COULARDEAU, University Paris Dauphine & University Paris 1 Pantheon Sorbonne
Having recently seen Jesse Bradford as Rene Gagnon in Clint Eastwood's Flags Of Our Fathers and been impressed I decided to check out Swimfan. It's a typical teen flick, a version in their age bracket of Fatal Attraction.Jesse's the object of the obsession of Erika Christiansen, a most disturbed young woman who had a tragedy that most of the cast doesn't know about, but that truly unhinges her. After Erika seduces Jesse in a steamy seduction scene at the high school pool, she enters his life in all sorts of unwanted ways. Jesse has a criminal past, but got himself into swimming and is set for an athletic scholarship in that sport. When one of Jesse's swimming teammates winds up dead in the selfsame swimming pool, he's looking mighty good for it to the police.Swimfan is not a badly done teen flick and in Bradford one has a young Tyrone Power so Erika's obsession is understandable.Hey, I think he looks a bit like Power, maybe Rob Lowe.
