Fantastic!
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
After the first few minutes I fast-forwarded through the rest of this 1st Class STINKER! The story/plot is a hodge-podge rip-off from any number of other movies and TV shows. The script is clichéd and wooden. I'm completely baffled how such cinematic drivel ever gets funded, not to mention how studios find actors willing to lend their names to these works of tripe. Really, what possibly motivated Robert Picardo to be in this... thing? For me, the ONLY remotely interesting element was the unusual Earth spaceship design. Everything else was quickly (and most mercifully) forgotten. Do not waste even one minute of your time watching this: I beg you!
A goofy movie, that changes it's direction every fifteen minutes or so. The plot is so convoluted that by three commercial breaks in, I still had no idea where the story was heading. Ah, at last; Alien Invasion. Spoiler alert ahead. This movie, Age of Tomorrow (2014) was Directed by James Kondelik and written by Jacob Cooney and Bill Hanstock. It seemed to borrow from lots of other sci fi movies, Armageddon, and Stargate come to mind, as does War of the Worlds. Here we have the Father, played by Mat Mercer, looking for his Daughter in jeopardy, Lindsay played by Taylor Coliee, they connect throughout the movie, to the point of parody. Dad needs to bring in an Army to rescue her, but ends up solo anyway. The plot spins valiantly out of control for the last reel. The Aliens, looked rubbery. We learn that an ax is more effective than alien blaster against aliens. The flying orbs was the best the cgi crew could do with a limited budget eh? An odd observation here; The spilling of blood was subliminally enhanced making it oddly out of place in the context of this movie. The Queen monster, just wanted to share a cup of tea, and reveal her plans to the captain, yep. Don't expect a logical place to stop and give it a rest. This one seems to have a difficult time, figuring out where it wants to end. Four out of Ten hokey Stars.
First of all, it's a bad movie. You can tell by the viewer ratings. They don't lie this time. Why is it a bad movie? There's simply too much that doesn't make any sense, and things that were pretty pointless to add into the movie. Here's why I don't think it's a good movie:-SPOILERS-One of the main characters are trying to find his daughter. Other people are risking their life to help him do this. Why? I bet they have families too they should take care of. Why did the movie tell us about "how this girl likes to party and ignore her phones, etc.." and that she didn't stay home, and instead went to the city, if it didn't matter at all to the plot. It was wasted information. And they made a big deal about her too, like people trying to find her, she's getting abducted and such, and her father crying, as if we too should care. We don't know who she is, and we don't care about her. It was just awkward to watch. This girl should just have been left out of the plot.We never got to know why the aliens tortured the humans. They used humans only for food for the queen. Then why make them suffer? It doesn't make any sense. Why did the queen tell her plans for this "mission"? She had no reason to do that. Someone should have just overheard the aliens talking about it or something. Maybe by cave drawings. The long dried out phone conversation between the black guy at the fire station and his kid. "Don't cry... Don't cry..." And we never saw him again. Nothing to do with the plot. The only thing that can kill aliens and robots are an ax...The women that wanted to die... OK, her kids were gone, but no one in their right mind would seriously want to kill themselves. And if they would (if they were f'd in the head), no one in their right mind would help kill that person. "No, I don't want to kill you", "But I lost my kids", "Ok" *shoves his knife in her guts*I really liked the aliens though. I think they looked awesome and frighting.
When the opening titles of the movie started I was quite excited! Slick, professional and intriguing titles. This boded well, I thought. And Robert Picardo, to boot!!Then the film started. With really cheap/badly, composited fireballs just missing the Hollywood hillside sign, then a cut to a guy on a crowded freeway talking on the phone to his ex-wife - I just knew, all was lost. For a lot of this film I was hoping that the experiences of the main characters were an induced dream/coma perpetrated by the Aliens to determine whether they could win a war against humanity - A much better plot, in my opinion. This could have been a great little film. The spacesuits were believable for a Sci-Fi film. I was especially impressed with the depiction of the alien world's vegetation - the 'Yellow brick road' path they tramped down, not so much.Overall fails? 1: Bog standard Sci-Fi premise. 2: Wasted budget on opening titles that could have been spent on a better script/story writer. 3: Wasted good talent (Picardo) 4: A really hack ending. This was never going anywhere but the bargain bin.But it could have been so much better.Corman and Cameron made an absolute fortune on the back of bad Sci-Fi. They made poor stories into decent films, well executed - and that made their fortune. This is a good story, badly executed.Overall Rating: 4/10
