Plenty to Like, Plenty to Dislike
Good story, Not enough for a whole film
It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
This movie, like Dragon Ball itself, has a lot that will appeal to first time watchers. The flashy fights, the enigmatic, charismatic characters and the story will make both die hard and new fans of the franchise feel like they were watching a high budget episode of the show. Complete with great voice acting by the returning cast, this film adds something new while reminding us about the old, infamous, villain Frieza. I don't want to diverge to much into the technical and production specifications but I felt it was my duty as a fan of Dragon ball to tell both old and new fans that they can rest assured of this being a return to format for the show, opening many exiting possibilities for future movies and Dragon Ball Super, the TV show which tells the story of both 'Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods' and 'Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F' while also continuing with new episodes. It is a must watch for fans of Dragon Ball and a recommendation for someone who is looking to get into a new TV Show, though I recommend watching the entirety of Dragon ball and Dragon ball Z, a large request, you could still find enjoyment in this movie despite not having knowledge about Dragon Ball lore.
Such lazy imagination, this was the most hyped Dragon Ball movie ever and all we got was some B rate story to lure kids to join the fandom and on the way making money by selling toys. The only thing that was good about it was the opportunity to show more details about Frieza's Army and the Animation. Here are my thoughts about this movie from my blog (no need to Copy+Paste it all here): The major issue I had was with the casting: how on Earth did Toriyama suddenly placed the weak pervert, Master Roshi, above Yamcha & Chiaotzu? Why Goten and Trunks didn't made an appearance? http://nivlugassiarts.blogspot.co.il/2016/08/ Search for the Yamcha & Chiaotzu post.Another issue that I have was why hyping Tagoma so much on the poster if he was going to die 10 minutes into the film? What about Frieza's ridiculous power boost by just training for 4 months? So he could have taken Majin Buu, whom he used to fear all his life, so pathetically easy if he'd just shoot holes through Zarbon or punching Dodoria for 4 months straight? What a lame excuse for rehashing a character, I'd rather having a new character/villain introduced to the franchise - who was always this crazy level strong - over Frieza every few pieces of the franchise.http://nivlugassiarts.blogspot.co.il/2016/12/my-suggestions-to-how- resurrection-f
The movie started off just great and looked promising for the first few minutes. The fight scenes were great and executed well enough. However, the movie had a very poor ending. Frieza had been Vegeta's nemesis from the very start and when Vegeta stepped in to fight Frieza, there was a certain kind of anticipation running through everyone expecting Vegeta to finish it in his style. However, the whole thing happened very briefly and expressing Goku as nothing but a victory hog. The movie was very one sided and somehow forced on to Goku to save the day, that too, very abruptly. Characters like Gohan and Piccolo were also mocked. At the end I would like to say it had some great fight scenes but a poor ending
Firstly, you should know that I'm a massive Dragon Ball Z fan. I know that I rated this an 8/10 as a film. But, to me, this film was a 10/10 in terms of sheer enjoyment. Sure, after you watch the film, the narrative seems a bit thin. And, I've heard people complain that the movie was too short, and that too much was left unexplained. These are valid points. And it's the reason why I can't give this more than an 8/10. But, I can't hold that against this film or it's writer. The type of film this was made it impossible to tick every single box and do *everything* right. In fact, the movie is incredible despite the limitations that TOEI put on Toriyama. It was never going to win Oscars. It doesn't even try to explain its world to non- Dragon Ball fans. This film is basically TOEI's "action set-piece" cash grab to "Battle of Gods"....Except that it's really well made. The plot (as in: the way the story develops) is as brilliant as we could expect from Akira Toriyama. Despite the limitations in the over-all story, Toriyama makes everything feel fresh, unpredictable, exciting and genuinely hilarious. The spirit of Dragon Ball (and its characters) is perfectly captured in this film. Moreover, the pacing is nearly flawless. Sure, there were certain moments that didn't reflect what I wanted to see. But, I still really enjoyed them. To me, having the story end up exactly like you want is completely missing the point of Dragon Ball. The film is just so much fun to watch, & everything is so well executed. To me, it's a 10/10 experience; a dream movie for any Dragon Ball fan.
