Terrible acting, screenplay and direction.
Strong and Moving!
Best movie ever!
Wow! What a bizarre film! Unfortunately the few funny moments there were were quite overshadowed by it's completely weird and random vibe throughout.
I cannot remember any film about a character of real Life or just a character that does not come from the comics where an actor has used false ears to play the role, especially when his original ears are not that much different in the first Place (but different enough for me to spot it). Was it Pacino's commitment to the role or was it an acquirement by the director or some other people - that, of course, I do not know. Most people don't spot the ears and for most people putting on false ears was totally unnecessary. Nevertheless this is what I Think is most staggering in this performance.
It's tough to make you cringe at the right moment, or evoke a laugh or emotion at exactly the right time. Barry Levinson's been around long enough to master all that. Pacino is surprisingly good, which sounds stupid, but after years of taking crappy scripts it feels odd to see him give a convincing, subtle performance in a well-written film. You never quite figure him out until the end, but as with any great movie you are left the unanswerable questions. Was Kevorkian driven by hubris or heroism, or insanity, or morbid personality quirks? He's definitely a kook, but his grip on reality remains fairly solid. Maybe there is no difference in his case, and maybe his ghoulish interest in a world filled with cruelty and injustice drove him to see death as a right. Or maybe he is just doing what any conscientious doctor should be doing. Now if only they had picked a better name for the movie.
A look at the life and work of doctor-assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian. You Don't Know Jack is a great HBO Film that showcases the life of Jack Kevorkian also known as Doctor Death who allows his dying individuals the right to determine how their lives will end. Some people accused him as a murderer others as a savior and from what i see in this film i think he is a savior he believes that people who are very sick and die day by day deserve a shot like this so he somehow helps them kill themselves he is not a god he is just doing his job in his own way and Al Pacino's performance is fantastic, charismatic and very thrilling the same goes for John Goodman and Danny Huston. It's not one of his best movies ever but it's definitely very strong and has a very powerful performance by Pacino although in my opinion Danny Collins was way better it was more optimistic and even more fun and thrilling but still a very good film 9/10
Is life a precious thing? It certainly is to those who enjoy good health and someone to share it with. For centuries people didn't think about those things. After all the life expectancy was significantly shorter, and the death seemed to be a natural end of life. Then the medicine advanced and we keep people alive even after they lose any quality of life. Because life is precious, or because there is more money to be made in keeping people around? Then came Jack Kevorkian and his passionate belief in helping people to end their lives with dignity. Now we know what conservative, fundamentalist religious people think. Well I am definitely not one of them, so I am torn between these deeply moral questions. Very good HBO movie, cautious not the shove the point down our throats, but discretely portraying a strange, damaged man with good notions, but the wrong personality for his beliefs. At the end it is all about the skill to sell us whatever nonsense they think of. Look at the politicians. Charm and white teeth, and what is underneath is scarier than Dr. Kevorkian's paintings.
