Simply A Masterpiece
Purely Joyful Movie!
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
Watching it is like watching the spectacle of a class clown at their best: you laugh at their jokes, instigate their defiance, and "ooooh" when they get in trouble.
Shades of No Country For Old Men, and that takes some direction, cinematography and screenplay. As one of the other reviewers on IMDb said, this movie is reassuring that the Spiderman reboot is in good hands. Definitely worth a watch if you like(d) movies from the Coen Brothers "edge of the seat slow thrillers" genre
(May contain a little bit of SPOILER but it won't destroy the joy, I promise)People won't call me mad if I say I see a very similarity in build- up of this movie with 'No Country for Old Men'. Similar Rural area that all the mess take place in. Slow growth of tension that culminates at the end and a BUMP just before the final credits roll down. Wow. I miss that cowboy hat though :)But this flick should really get more attention on its own merit. Kevin Bacon plays out the sinister persona very well. I love his character in this movie that I had been waiting so long since 'X-Men First Class'. Kids are good in their playful way of looking at things and they left me to know more of what happened to them.
In the countryside, the runaway kids Travis (James Freedson-Jackson) and Harrison (Hays Wellford) find a police car in the field in the middle of nowhere and they decide to drive it. A woman (Camryn Manheim) sees the boys in the police car on the road. When they stop the car, they find a man (Shea Whigham) tied with rope in the trunk. However, Travis and Harrison release the man that subdue them and prepares a trap for Kretzer. Meanwhile the dirty Sheriff Kretzer (Kevin Bacon) finds that his car was taken by the boys and he tries to retrieve it. What will happen to them?"Cop Car" is a terrible and overrated film with a boring story and annoying boys. The IMDb User Rating lures unwary viewers that expect to see a decent B-movie. My vote is three.Title (Brazil): "A Viatura" ("Cop Car")
With 'Cop Car', Jon Watts delivers a suspenseful, occasionally comedic thriller boasting an original premise that presents the naivety of childhood. Granted the children commit Grand Theft Auto in the first ten minutes, but that allows the two child stars to excel: James Freedom-Jackson and Hays Wellford. Rarely do two such young actors convey a realistic sense of oblivious enjoyment - which soon turns into concern as the gravity of their situation sink in. Kevin Bacon makes for a fascinating anti-hero/antagonist as the sinister Sheriff who methodically attempts to retrieve the titular vehicle. An excellent film for Watts' CV that justifies Marvel hiring him for the upcoming 'Spider-Man' reboot.
