From my favorite movies..
Don't listen to the negative reviews
Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Watching it is like watching the spectacle of a class clown at their best: you laugh at their jokes, instigate their defiance, and "ooooh" when they get in trouble.
I rarely take the time to write a review on IMDb but this one sucks so bad - after a decent start - I had to do it."Takers" starts off promising with decent cinematography and sharp detail but soon enough there's too much of "I've seen this before" feeling. The pace is fast and there's plenty of action but "cool" gangsters moving to loud "cool" music has been so overdone it seems the director couldn't come up with any original ideas so he felt it OK to just copy elements from "Heat," "The Italian Job," and others already mentioned elsewhere. Sad.Only Idris Elba and Matt Dillon pull their weight in the acting department. The other "actors" - especially the rappers - all come across like rank amateurs, unable to deliver any credibility. Wanted to turn it off by the 60 minute mark but forced myself to see through the end. Will NOT be watching this trash again.A lot of flash here but little energy. Dull, predictable, boring and forgettable. True fans of heist films will do better with a rerun of "Heat."
'Takers' was clearly made by people who saw Michael Mann's classic 'Heat' and the fun and genre reviving 'The Italian Job' and said "I can do that!". Unfortunately they were wrong. The attempt to flesh the characters out with various bits of side drama is commendable, but that focus would've been better spent on the internal group dynamics instead. And it's downright painful to watch a great actor like Idris Elba have to share the screen with the likes of someone named "T.I.", who is apparently a musician of some sort or another. I advise Mr. T.I. not to quit his day job and Mr. Elba to be more choosy.
This film has all the makings of a decent film – reasonable actors, a bit of action and some slick direction, but, for some reason, it just never seems to attain the right balance. It's about a gang of five robbers who rob places. And, unlike other films where the 'heroes' are thieves, these guys simply aren't that likable. They steal from the rich and that's about it. Therefore we can't really root for them. This would be okay, if it didn't feel like they were trying to be portrayed as decent people (which they're blatantly not!).Then, on the other hand, we have the two police officers who are hot on their heels. It would be easy to make them the good guys and the robbers the bad guys. However, these two aren't much more likable than their criminal counterparts. Therefore we have no one really to root for. Sure, they all look cool, but we still don't like them.Plus the first hour is pretty dull. I was getting quite bored, but at least the last act did save it. The heist is pretty exciting and it saves all the best parts for last. It's nothing special, but it's slightly better than a lot of its contemporaries. If you're in the mood for a light sort of heist movie then this is it, but I doubt anyone will remember it in a few weeks time! http://thewrongtreemoviereviews.blogspot.co.uk/
This movie was quite enjoyable for me. Yes - The plot has a few holes in it, but I find that it did not detract from the excitement and action of the movie.I must commend T.I on his performance as Ghost, I honestly did not expect him to be a very good actor - honestly I didn't expect much from him. However, I was pleasantly surprised. If you are a T.I fan definitely check out this movie to watch his performance he does a great job at playing a sly villainous character. The main complaint I have about this movie is the lack of character development. You are introduced to each member of the heist team but know no more about them than the car they drive, their name and that they own a club together. It would have been nice if there was an elaboration on each characters back story so you could understand more about them and how they came together to form this heist team.So...If you're looking for a movie with a talented cast, exciting heist scenes or to simply be entertained then this movie is right up your alley. Its a far cry from becoming a classic but it is a good movie nonetheless.
