This is the kinda movie that keeps you wondering on the worst of days such a beautiful message is passed on for workaholics i mean people don't realize their life passing by so soon unless someone is gone for ever. this movie reminds it's viewers the sole purpose of literally doing anything which is to lead a happy life acting was great there were really touching moments maybe that's why it made me so emotional and happy at the same time....definitely worth watching

I must say I don't understand why this movie is so underrated and I don't since 2011, when I saw the movie for the first time in my life. Some time ago I was a huge fan of Orlando Bloom, that's why I went across this movie, and I don't remember why I couldn't see it as soon as I found out the movie exists, but 7 years ago I did it. I didn't know what to expect, but I was amazed by this film. It was as simple as my life - Drew already in the beginning becomes your friend, because who haven't had any fails or even fiascos in this life? I guess, it's one of those points which makes characters on screen and movie watchers so close. Cuz from the first moments you see someone has to deal with a failure, with a problem, with attitude from others, and that's what we do all the time!I've seen this movie many times and every time I discover something new. Last time I watched it was after I lost one of my relatives. I actually immediately wanted to see this movie, cuz it's characters are going through same difficulties and they have to deal with same stuff as any of us who ever lost a very close and important person. You have your own life, again - your success and your failures, and then, out of a sudden, you have to deal with such things. And then there's Clair. It was the first movie I really noticed Kirsten Dunst, cuz I do believe I've seen her before, but in this movie she was so adorable, her character was a bit crazy, but a lot lovely. And have you ever payed attention how they met for the first time in the plane? Personally, I checked it just in last time I was watching movie. She sees him and she already knows THAT'S THE GUY. And she walks and she talks, and he doesn't care, cuz he's way too busy with his own life, but then there's this Clair, who simply can't step away from him, who wants to help and probably keep him as well. Anyways, in my opinion this is kinda lovely way how to show people's relationship on the screen, cuz, I must I've been somewhere there as well. Being Clair makes everything much more fun, in life! She's smart, fun and definitely lovely, and deserves the best.I really love the way how grows relationship between those two in the movie. Also, I love the fact it all happens meanwhile the funeral of Drew's father takes place. Drew's failure, father's death, unexpected meeting with Clair, crying sister and their very optimistic mother, and Drew's meeting with his relatives from father's side + the wedding of Chuck & Cindy. Sounds like a crazy salad, a mix of everything, but it all works so good together. It's actually really simple, and every time I'm watching this movie, I feel like I'm actually watching a life, indeed. There are so many events at once, it actually makes you feel like your watching a life, cuz we all go through all of this and it's not like we're just working or trying to figure out our relationships with others, it's like all together at once and we have to deal with every inch of it all. And "if it wasn't this, it'd be something else".The final thing I would like to admit in all of this... is the music. It makes this movie much more beautiful. Songs are perfectly picked for every scene they appear and that, of course, makes me love of this a lot lot more. And when I want to take rest from a hard day, I simply turn on something from Elizabethtown's OST.It's been 7 years since the first time I saw the movie and 13 years already since it came out. I guess, there will be 13 more, and this will still be one of my all time favorite movies. Don't miss a chance to see something so light and sweet!

Whatever this film intended to be, it missed its mark regally. If the first 20 Minutes held an unsure promise of a light romantic comedy, then the remaining one hundred tedious ones not only dash this hope, but insist on introducing, then butchering, other genres, from "road movie" to "small-town idyll" to "self-discovery trip".Although Drew, played by Mr Orlando Bloom, manages to portray a more or less sympathetic if innocuously lightweight character, and Ms Dunst, as Claire, probably couldn't help coming across as sweet to save her life, describing the rest of the cast as one-dimensional would be giving credit where none is due. Ms Sarandon, as Drew's father's distraught widow Hollie, shows not a hint of the talent we have seen from her so often, not that story or dialogue give her much of an opportunity of doing so, and the inhabitants of Elizabethtown attempt the portrayal of a combination of lovable stereotypes and dysfunctional small-town caricatures without ever managing to convey even the canned emotions associated with these clichés.Beyond that, what remains is an exhausting feeling of relief glimpsing the final credits. After two hours of a downhill ride in which every scene seems the low point of the film, only to be outdone by the next one, it is reminiscent of the five stages of grief without the opportunity to bargain. If the first half of the movie splashes along, alternating between an over-the-phone love story, fittingly lacking intelligent dialogue, a flaky widow somewhere between denial and atonement, and the burial of a man whom we have never met nor care about by a group of people we haven't met and do not care about either, not to mention the side-story of the marriage of a couple who we, yes one might have guessed, didn't care about in the first place.Had this been all, then this film could well queue up with so many other below-average romantic comedies destined for afternoon showing on local weekend television or to gather digital dust in some discount pay-per-view collection, but regrettably the coasting downhill ride is about to pick up pace. The film's initial climax, for lack of a more apposite word, begins with a memorial service attended by all the culprits. A series of uninspired eulogies lead up to Hollie's speech before the assembled Elizabethtowners which invariably prompts vicarious embarrassment, similar to the impulse one gets of turning down the sound when some reality show nitwit intentionally, or worse unintentionally, makes a fool of himself. But a Susan Sarandon, recounting stories of erections, followed by singing and tap-dancing her way through the remainder of the eulogy is not the grand finale, but only a further low point with worse to come. This vaudevillian fiasco, followed by a would-be rock band composed of assorted relatives, culminates in a giant papier-mâché dove setting fire to the ball room and sending all guests scurrying for the exits; Deus ex machina meets Carrie. The final ten or so minutes of a denouement turned road trip is spent on Drew's paper chase across the mid-west which manages to pack all the shallowest clichés of an Americana apology into a condensed Smörgåsbord appealing only to the most undiscerning viewer. On the bright side, there is one thing the viewer may cling to: after 123 minutes … it is over.

This movie wants you to like it so much. It tries with such great earnest, that you will throw your hands up and just let it have its way. Typical of most Cameron Crowe movies, this is LOADED with expired music hoping you get the references. Also, this may be a record, but it's padded with so many point-of-view from characters that look directly in camera. A lot, even for a Crowe movie. There's something awfully sad about this movie. It has nothing to do with the funeral, and more to do with the underlining psychosis Bloom goes through in his flippant attempt at suicide. Should we be laughing at his contraption? Should we not. Should be be laughing when it's put on hold so he can go learn about his father. Not really. In fact, I felt I knew LESS about the man than coming into it. A MacGuffin...maybe. Anyway, the Dunst character is so overzealous and pushy, to a point where you really sensed her darkness that projects light. I knew women like these. I stayed away from women like these. In any other movie, she'd have an anvil dropped on her. In this one, it seems to be passed off as charming. It's not.Overall, I'd say it was a mid-level movie. It has the basic stuff down, however, missing a lot of fundamentals. Such as story arc. A slight change in demeanor (Bloom's flatline acting needs a shot of adrenaline). This feels too close (on a personal level) for Crowe to remove what may've played well in real- life from a good movie.
