Great Film overall
What a freaking movie. So many twists and turns. Absolutely intense from start to finish.
It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Slow moving, and when it does moves along, it seems to leave out crucial information at times. Not sure if it was Mongolian habit 800 years ago, but half the killings are because of a woman, and half are to revenge one man's brother. Only in the final battle is it for power. One gets a sense of deja vu afterwards with him being captured so many times and all under very similar circumstances.
Unlike many historical films, having an interest in the subject area is not needed at all to enjoy and appreciate this movie. The visuals, stunning scenery and action alone in 'Mongol' make it a beautiful film to watch. The story of Genghis Khan is fascinating and I thought it was presented very well in the film. There was more emphasis on the actual story than the action and special effects, which is what I prefer. The action itself was impressive but not overdone, as it so often is, which was also a pleasant change.'Mongol' is a very well made and visually stunning film that can be understood and enjoyed by all.
In 1192, Temüjin is a prisoner of the Tangut kingdom. Twenty years earlier, he's a young boy taken to choose a wife. He picks Börte and agrees to return after 5 years. His Khan father is poisoned and follower Targutai leads a revolt. Temüjin is saved when Targutai accepts the tradition of not killing children. Temüjin barely survives and makes Jamukha his blood brother. He would be taken prisoner and enslaved. With Börte, he becomes a great leader leading to a rivalry with Jamukha. This is a compelling story. I really like the driven Temüjin boy. The action is violent. There is a desolated brutality to the landscape. The movie does get a little slow after Temüjin is imprisoned in Tangut. It needs to raise the intensity of that section leading up to the climatic battle.
Disappointing.I love biopics, so was very keen to see this, especially as I don't know much about the life of Genghis Khan. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. A lot of the bigger picture detail is left out. The script leaves huge gaps in the history, gaps which which would have been more interesting that the detail that was provided. Because of these gaps you don't get a feel for how Genghis Khan achieved his power, and the whole thing becomes disjointed and confusing.Acting felt very wooden, too.A movie that leaves you with more questions than answers.
