I finally watched this film last night and it is mostly funny. Some of the jokes in the middle of the film are childish, but most of the spoofs in the first 1/3 and last 1/3 are hilarious. I'm surprise I never heard of this film before until now. It might not be worth the price of a movie ticket to some, but as an on demand TV movie, it's entertaining.

After many extremely awful parodies, such as Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans, Disaster Movie, and The Starving Games—finally the writing and directing duo, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, did something good. This time, while they parody The Fast and the Furious franchise, there is some kind of plot, actual funny lines and situations, a number of really nice ideas, and a conscience to review the downsides of its original. Well, late is better than never ! The script created plenty of lovable moments; like the scene of the plan's explanation, the running gag of misunderstanding the girlfriend's carriage, and the evil guy's anger towards his dumb henchman. Not to mention, it satirized the original's stereotypes as Rapper Cameo, Cool Asian Guy, and Model Turned Actress. And cleverly spoofed its leads' marks : Dwayne Johnson's muscles, Michelle Rodriguez's masculinity, and Paul Walker's idiotic aspect. But while it's surely less stupid than Friedberg & Seltzer's previous dogs, Superfast isn't wholly smart. It lacks cinematic craft, and sometimes lacks cinema itself. For obvious examples : Couple of scenes dragged to the edge of bore, the editing is heavy-handed in some places, and the direction is between lazy and nonexistent. It's a tangible problem in their previous work too, which assures that they don't have enough potential to direct.Over and above, few jokes were pretty old to be used (the foot that gets longer after being ran over by a car, keeping the skeleton of a dead guy.. ). The production was beyond poor; the movie looks made in one warehouse and one street. Save Dale Pavinski as Vin Diesel's caricature, Omar Chaparro as the laughably nervous evil guy, and the beautiful Lili Mirojnick—the cast consists of some actors with the least charisma and talent.Despite its foibles, this is surprisingly enjoyable comedy. I don't think that this has something to do with its PG-13 rating. Because Friedberg & Seltzer's 2013 movie, The Starving Games, was PG-13 as well, though crowded with blood, farts, and other sources of hideousness. I believe it has something to do with the way how they challenged themselves to accomplish a comedy that doesn't count on toilet humor, sex jokes, bad language, and free nudity (namely the easy filthiness and cheapness), while having – in the same time – the ambition of early classic parodies such as The Naked Gun series, in terms of coherence and visual comedy. Superfast is the first movie by Friedberg & Seltzer that could be watched more than once (or watched in the first place !). And after 15 years of ruthless flops, that's a historical achievement which the entire human race must learn from, and follow its example !

I try to give Friedberg and Seltzer the benefit of the doubt. I'm a sucker for a good spoof movie and these guys HAVE put out some good ones in the past. I got enjoyment from the first four Scary Movies. Yes, even 4 had its moments. By this point though it's obvious that the duo of filmmakers are just beating a dead horse. They played their hand and have nothing left to show - Superfast! is just another nail in their already-laid-out coffin.Against my better judgement I've seen almost every spoof these guys have done. If you know anything about the directors then you should know what you're getting yourself into with this movie. I had no expectations, and the movie still managed to disappoint. It's certainly not the worst movie they've done - it's a step up from the utter sh*tpile known as The Starving Games and certainly more watchable than Disaster Movie, Vampires Suck, and Meet the Spartans. The problem is that this movie had potential. It really did. Superfast! acts as a spoof not only of the Fast & Furious franchise but of action movie clichés in general. The jokes that can come from that are endless, and the beginning of the movie gave a few chuckles and showed a hint of promise. But as the movie goes on it becomes more and more clear that these spoofers think toilet jokes and cheap gross-out gags are funnier than genuine satire.I'll give credit where credit is due: The casting in this movie was good. Especially the Vin Diesel caricature and the cartel kingpin. It looked like the actors were having fun and doing the best they could do with the material they had. It's unfortunate that their talents were wasted here because they definitely have a sense of good comedic timing and decent acting chops in general. That's about as far as the positives go. The awkward "humor" is just cringeworthy and uncomfortable. The toilet humor got old decades ago. A good amount of these jokes wouldn't go by well in an Elementary School let alone on the big screen. Superfast! is filled to the brim with moments that leave you thinking, who in the hell thought that was funny? Who thought making this film would be a good idea? And most importantly, why are these talentless hacks still making movies?

The directing duo behind this movie (Friedberg and Seltzer) have a similar theme running through all of their work, that being its all crap. I mean seriously...these guys were actually behind the 'Scary Movie', 'Date Movie', 'Epic Movie', 'Disaster Movie' franchises, a quadrilogy/tetralogy of turds. But wait there's more! they even did 'Vampires Suck', 'The Starving Games' and 'Meet the Spartans' too! The only movie they can maybe claim was semi-decent was their first, 'Spy Hard' with Leslie Nielsen. Clearly these guys aren't gonna be quitting the spoof genre anytime soon.So apparently the guys will be spoofing every type of movie that ever gets released. Perfect time for the hip street racing genre to get lampooned, you know which franchise is getting it. The first thing that struck me about this was actually how close in appearance the various actors look when compared to the real main stars. The characters in this movie are a parody of the characters from 'The Fast and Furious' franchise and truth be told there are actually some amusing performances here. The main lead actor Dale Pavinski plays Vin Serento (Dominic Toretto/Vin Diesel) and in all honesty I was shocked that they found someone who does fit the bill. This guy not only looks relatively similar to Vin Diesel but he has a pretty good frame too, he can also act and manages the comedy aspect well. Dio Johnson plays Rock Johnson (Luke Hobbs/Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson) and again I was actually amazed that they found someone who not only looks similar to the A-list star but he also has a pretty good frame, obviously nowhere near the real deal but not bad. I was also impressed with this guys comical impression of Dwayne Johnson's acting style and little quirks. Quite amusing how Dio manages to mimic those big round staring eyes that never blink, the way Dwayne moves his head when talking, and of course the one hit wonder visual gag that was admittedly hilarious, the obsession with baby oil to make his biceps glisten in the sun.The rest of the cast are made up of various pretty people who simply fill the diversity quota much like the original franchise. I quite liked the character names of Cool Asian Guy, Rapper Cameo and Model Turned Actress, not exactly original but amusing none the less (they should of had Another Token Black Guy). Most of these performances are obviously forced and over the top but there were the odd rays of light such as Omar Chaparro as the main villain and Alex Ashbaugh's attempts at mimicking Paul Walker's body language (Paul Walker's Keanu Reeves 'Point Break' impression).Aside from some of the cast offering some reasonable laughs everything else is as you would expect from something like this. Most of the gags are visual incorporating accident type shenanigans with people getting run over, car prangs and general slapstick. There is plenty of plain stupid tomfoolery including a dance routine and Serento shaving his head whilst racing etc...Some of the jokes work such as Rock asking his partner if his shirt is tight enough, along with the constant appliance of baby oil on himself (gotta admit that is funny). Most of it does fall flat on its face or they linger too long on the gag.But what street racing flick would be complete without lots of sexy girls in tight skimpy attire, well this doesn't disappoint with much gratuitous ass imagery and tight tops. Naturally the cars are also just as hot as the girls, well one or two are. Clearly the budget didn't stretch far enough for a proper string of super saloons so we get the odd highly modded Toyota. Although it is amusing that the cars are regular pimped up shabby models or seriously dated sports cars. There seemed to be some kind of super looking car in there but no idea what it was, a concept maybe. All the boxes are ticked with major stereotyping, hip hop slang/dialog, sleazy girls, gun porn, tight shirts, ridiculous cars and nonsensical heist plots. All in all I kinda liked this overall, its certainly not as bad as people are making out, it is funny to see a spoof of this genre. I mean lets be honest the 'Fast and Furious' franchise is so ripe for a send-up I'm amazed its taken this long to see it happen. I'm just happy to see less aimless pop culture references here.5.5/10
