Load of rubbish!!
Fresh and Exciting
There are better movies of two hours length. I loved the actress'performance.
Blistering performances.
Technically speaking, "Disappointments room" is a slick, professionally made movie with (very) good sets, props and special effects. Sadly it is so clichéd and derivative that it becomes predictable rather than disquieting or chilling. I use the word "predictable" deliberately, since I watched the movie, which was on the telly, in the company of three other people. Every now and then we would try to predict the next scene or evolution. ("She's going to see herself in the mirror !" "No, she is going to see absolutely no-one in the mirror !" "She's going to see herself AND a ghostly shade in the mirror !") 99 percent of the time, at least one person guessed the correct answer. The ending was predicted by four people who spoke with the same voice. For those who would like to watch a better horror movie on a somewhat similar theme, I recommend "The changeling" - it's genuinely creepy and atmospheric.Still, I may be unfair to "Disappointments room", since the "Haunted house" theme has been used and abused so many times before that it becomes hellishly difficult to invent something new.
I love Kate ,but how this movie was approved and actually released is a great mystery
This could have been a great film if they'd really focused on the horrible injustices committed against children who were the "disappointments." Instead, it focused on a character who appeared unstable without many redeeming qualities. In other words, the main character was not likable. In fact, there were no real likable characters in the film. Perhaps the librarian was the most charming. Unfortunately, she was only on screen for probably less than ten minutes total.Even the ghosts weren't impressive! Yes, I HAVE TO SAY IT: WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!
I viewed the Disappointment's room this week and was glad I did not give in to the horrid reviews it received. This film may not be anything close to the Shining(some scenes are homages to it of course) but it is nowhere near deserving of the bashing It's gotten. As I understand this was a real thing in where a prominent family would lock a disfigured or disabled child away to avoid embarrassment and this was explained by HGTV's reality home remodeling show . The suspense was there throughout and I was not bored by this at all as in watching it I wanted to know the origin of the hostile poltergeist. There are jump scares but also some sequences that insight actual terror like a child being mauled by an animal. Kate Beckinsale carries the film as it's lead and the little boy's(her son in film) perilous situations had me holding my breath at times. I realize I am in the minority in not hating this film but it was a good watch for me at least .
