Take Me Home Tonight
Recent MIT grad Matt Franklin should be well on his way to a successful career at a Fortune 500 company, but instead he rebels against maturity by taking a job at a video store. Matt rethinks his position when his unrequited high-school crush, Tori, walks in and invites him to an end-of-summer party. With the help of his twin sister and his best friend, Matt hatches a plan to change the course of his life.

Such a frustrating disappointment
So much average
Nice effects though.
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
"Take Me Home Tonight" deserves points for capturing that teen movie feel of a life-changing party; for the most part, at least. On a technical level, the '80s elements are pretty superficial; you could set this in the '90s or even today and it'd be the same story. As such, it owes something to "Can't Hardly Wait", and maybe some of the ennui from "The Graduate".What kinda surprised me is how some of the side players threatened to steal the movie (Demetri Martin, Anna Faris, and especially Michael Biehn). All that said, the period gags don't crash and burn like some recent movies, and it makes for a decent way to kill 90 minutes.6/10
Alright, so going into this film, didn't know what to expect. Cast besides Topher Grace I didn't know and the story while it seemed done to death could be done well. So I put the movie in and began to watch it. What a terrible film, just awful. Now, I can't talk about the movie without spoilers, so if you're interested in seeing this movie, I'd advise against it, but only for the curious and willing.*******SPOILER ALERT********************************************Okay, lets get down to what's wrong with the film in several aspects.1. Cast/Characters: So when the film starts, we meet our protagonist Matt(Topher Grace) working at a video store in a mall. He's gone to school, but doesn't know what to do with his life. One day he sees the girl that he had a crush on in high school and the film is him lying to get with her. Already, I hate his character. Not because of where he is, but how he plans on getting to his goals. Lying about yourself to impress someone is SO done to death and this film doesn't provide anything new to add. But what about the other charters? Well, the other characters of the film are (sigh), Chris Pratt who is the boyfriend of Matt's sister. He's the usual self centered ass who wants things his way and take advantage of others. He's possibly worse than Grace because of this. Then there's Matt's friend, Barry, who also is also despicable for different reasons. Early in the film, he breaks into his old job and steals a car for Matt or revenge, either could have been the case. He's that awkward friend who gets him self into bad situations. Matt's sister wants to go to school in England and is smothered by Chris Pratt's character. She just provides a voice of reason. But wait you may say, what about Matt's love interest? She just exists in the movie, nothing more. She's a way for the plot to continue until the end. 2. Story: Movies can suffer from many reasons. The biggest one is the story. This particular story is the major problem in the movie. The problems for this story is partially from how the charters are written. Some are that idiot friend or love interest. But there's also situations and how the story flows. One thing that i'd give the movie some credit for is when Matt is facing being found out at a party later on with his love interest. He gets himself out of it with his math skills, something that the film established early on. Besides that scene, its all down hill. Just the love interest finding out that he's not who he says he is, Matt's sister finding the courage to stand up to Chris Pratt and what you'd expect from this kinda film. A point that isn't finalized is what Matt will do with his life. Its mentioned to him throughout the film, but they don't feel like finishing that off.WHAT THEY COULD HAVE DONE BETTER So, what could have been done to make this miserable film better? A few things could have made this film watchable all involve characters. If you finalized Matt's journey by going to an interview at Goldman Sachs to show him moving on with his life, that would be good. Even if you had his friend going to college, that would had been something to end on.
Very enjoyable movie full of great 80's concepts and growing up in the 80's.The soundtrack is top notch and excellent and so is the casting.Matt is a grad of MIT, but is lost in his career and work's in a Suncost video store...which was a staple of 80's malls. He is lost but one night, his high school crush returns home after college and he goes for it.Can Matt win Tori Federkin...and do women go for smart guys who work at Suncost? This movie is a very nice well written, fun, and inspiring and a great take on the 80's.The music is outstanding as is the acting.10 out of 10.....those of 80's and early 90's boomers will enjoy the ride.
First of all, I have to say that I RARELY like movies that score under 7.0 in IMDb.com. Mostly my favorite movies are in the Top 250 list and include many critically acclaimed classics. This was not clearly one of those. Still, I liked this movie very much. I have seen it like six times. Somehow it works for me.It's not a 80's nostalgia thing, because I was quite young in the 80's. I liked the soundtrack, but only one of my favorite songs in it. (Kickstart My Heart) But somehow I liked the chemistry between the leading couple and every scene where they are together, works. Their characters are both very likable. Of course the scene with grown ups playing Truth or Dare was a bit cheesy, but didn't bother me. Also it may not be very believable, since if a guy would lie so much to a girl as Matt did, she would not most likely ever speak to him again. It kind of was a far stretch. But this movie has a lot of good comedic moments and romantic moments too.Didn't like the parts with Dan Folger that much, with some exceptions. He did OK, but his scenes were a bit off with the general mood of the movie. Anna Faris did much better as Matt's sister.
