It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

They very much have a physical attraction for one another, and he loves her, and would go back to her in a heartbeat. She on the other hand does not feel the same way. It would appear she has not truly loved anyone, and although, she most definitely feels something for him, it is not enough to make her change her present way of life. It is the kind of work that you feel you must see again, to help get some of the background story straight. Is what happened, actually what you're thinking happened. These two actors both do a great job in this production, they are a pleasure to watch... the prolonged scene where they're getting undressed to go to bed is especially good. They are both the type you can probably not think of a movie where you didn't somewhat enjoy their performance. Story's don't always have to be complicated, just well written, produced, and performed. Sounds so simple.. then why are they so many more times not as good as this very worthwhile little film. This one is surely going into 'the library' for future viewing.

I opted to see Conversations with other Women only because of the cast. To my surprise this hasn't been merely a romantic comedy, it turned out to be a piece of experimental movie making. In the beginning i expected the split screen to be used in the introductory scenes only. Eventually, it turned out to be the main vehicle for the movie's themes. The split screen fit well with the people separated for years, yet unified in their thoughts and impulses. Whether the authors wanted to say that true love never dies is not important. What matters is that the movie conveys the personal insights of main protagonists ranging from passion to detachment.

Unusual but provocative, this movie draws us into the lives of two people who appear to meet casually but go on to bare their innermost lives and feelings. The repartee is fun and the interactions with other characters, though limited, are amusing. The main actors are Helena Bonham Carter and Aaron Eckhart, two independent people who, despite their mutual attraction, are mature enough to hesitate getting involved in a evening together that they might regret. The dialogue between them reveals their private memories and regrets from a past that overlaps to some extent, as we will find out. The initial impression is of eavesdropping on an ongoing exchange between two strangers who are meeting for a one-night stand. But then, they freely unload themselves of their private feelings about the wedding and then delve into their pasts. The technique of showing past and present on a split screen or cutaways to one or the other draws the audience more fully into the encounter. A movie with great acting and some unpredictable situations, this is a movie that is worth seeing and left me wanting to see again.

I never would of thought in a million years that Eckhart and Bonham-Carter could pull off a film like this... I mean I had a lot of faith in her, but I was a little weirded out about the two of them together. Let me just say I was already a fan of Zevin's novels (particularly Elsewhere.. yeah I know it's a teen novel but hey, it's a great spin on the afterlife) I just had no idea how great this film was going to be. It was unconventional in the greatest sense... the duo, the plot, the emphasis on how imperfect life is && how you really don't know the next bend in the road or what you have until it's gone...The Carla Bruni soundtrack only adds to the greatness. This film really spoke to me, it really makes me question my life. Am I happy? Or could I be if I had a man by the balls the way Helena's character mastered Aarons'? Oooh but how I wished things could work out! Why does life have to turn into circumstances, that block you from getting what you want? Ah.... I digress. When the movie does end, I'm left choking back tears, but somehow optimistic. I don't know, it just does that to me, and no, it's not because of the upbeat Carla B. song... since this film was so real, you can almost predict what could happen. Definitely a good bittersweet open ending and all I can say is Bravo Conversations with Other Women 10/10.
