Very best movie i ever watch
Am i the only one who thinks........Average?
It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
"Cherry Falls" has the residents of a small town in Virginia up in arms when a serial killer begins targeting teenage virgins. Jody (Brittany Murphy), a high school student, finds herself at the center of it all with her sheriff father (Michael Biehn) investigating the case.I recall catching "Cherry Falls" on television one summer back in the early 2000s when it showed on the USA Network. I was barely a teenager then, but the film's killer always stuck in my mind— the long, stringy black hair, adorned in the black leather attire as she chased Brittany Murphy down an empty high school hallway was an image I've continued to remember.Re-watching the film now, probably a decade later at this point, I am surprised by how much the film still holds up. The script is a clear-cut satire on the slasher genre, riffing on "Scream" but playing up the teenage sexuality angle and flipping it on its head. Where teen sexuality has always been a peripheral trope of the genre, "Cherry Falls" makes it its primary focus, subverting the "dead, oversexed teenagers" to "dead virgins." The writing here is witty and clever, and the film is macabre and unnerving while still maintaining a playful edge to it.Director Geoffrey Wright employs some flashy cinematography at times—there is a lot of flaring, jumpy hyper-edits and dramatic stylistics that show the film's age— but there is also a timeless capturing of small-town high school culture that gives the film a strong atmosphere that makes it an especially enjoyable watch. The aforementioned presentation of the film's killer still has an effectiveness to this day; it's bizarre and unusually striking, and the long black hair masking the face makes for some very creepy visuals. There are some great thrills as the film propels itself toward its climax (no pun intended) as the killer crashes the teens' mass orgy in the woods, which gives rise to some of the film's more playfully humorous tinges. The late Brittany Murphy leads the film, and is as fantastic as she always was; her character is believable as a high schooler, and the script gives her room for emotion. Jay Mohr and Michael Biehn are also great here, with minor performances from Jesse Bradford and DJ Qualls, whose careers were still in infant stages.Unfortunately, "Cherry Falls" was relegated to television and home video after rumored battles with the MPAA which left the film cut to shreds and quickly sold out for TV distribution. In some ways, the film does appear to be over-cut, but not enough to take away from its cohesion. There is an ample amount of gore in the film as well, which was surprising to see on the USA Network back in the early 2000s.Overall, "Cherry Falls" is a clever and unashamed take on genre tropes that is playful and unnerving in equal measure. It is not a film that needs to be taken seriously, and in fact, it makes sure its audience need not to. It adequately situates itself within the universe that all high school slasher films reside in and bounces off the landmarks gracefully, leaving us with a fun, creepy, and self-aware end product that is as quick-witted as it is absurd. 8/10.
Well, although it already has a few years he had never even heard of this film teen horror, but when I saw the name of the sadly now deceased Brittany Murphy, actress who always had and still has for me a special magnetism finally decided checking out.The film begins well enough, with the murder of a couple, a classic in the genre, about to lose her virginity, and maintains an interest and atmosphere more or less to half of the film, which unfortunately has started to deflate both attention and pace to reach a climax pretty weak in my opinion. It has some qualities like atmosphere and made some suspense, the presence of Murphy and Michael Biehn, a scene of self-defense when they practice exercises and left me a little confused when it is stretched over it, I know your but I noticed something odd about the pose and expression of both, finally, they may be my imagination, anyway both do a proper performance before the cameras, the inevitable air that gives the film Scream, and generally an acceptable development of the plot, although this is losing strength as it moves ,.But that can not cover the fact that she has a history caught by the hair, with very few murders and gore if not almost nothing for my taste, a murderer who causes anything but fear and a really weak climax, ¨ the course Hymen Holocaust, which is more light than I've seen in a horror film, and I have seen few precisely.A film that seems to promise something strong and distinct but falls just into something acceptable and entertaining in which the filmmakers never really get to dive into the pool despite playing with an idea and concepts with which if could have echo, remaining as in So a suggestive in some points but routine and predictable in the rest slasher.
Spoiler Alert!!! OK this film seemed to be more along the same path Scream was done out. It has the female lead character being stalked by a killer who's killing her friends off one at a time. Sounds like a rip off of scream doesn't it? Well it gets better, it turns out that the sheriff is convinced that the killer is only killing virgins at the school. So this causes a large group of students to be coaxed into having a huge sex party later towards the end of the film. The killer turns out to be Jay Mohr wearing a wig carrying an axe. This whole film has some pretty interesting settings. The film is just in general another attempt at reviving the slasher movie genre and for me it didn't fail but it wasn't the greatest idea for a movie. For me I think the biggest highlight of the film was that it stars Michael Biehn in what appears to be one of his only along with, The Fan, slasher movies he's done. I decided to give it a 5 out of 10.
I had never even heard of this movie until recently. I guess I was far outside of its demographic, being almost 30 when it was released. I watched it because I thought it was a Michael Biehn movie about him chasing a serial killer. However, it turns out that this is a ridiculous Scream clone, marketed to teenagers. The first half of the movie is pretty stupid. Like Scream, it constantly attempts to impress us with its witty and ironic deconstructions of teenage slasher conventions. In traditional movies, such as Friday the 13th, a serial killer brutally murders horny teenagers who have sex. In this movie, it's the reverse: a serial killer hunts down and brutally murders virgins. That's very witty and ironic, if you're a teenager or hack screenwriter. There are some parts of the movie that work, however. While too inhibited to be effective as a horror movie, there are some funny scenes near the end. Also, if you're looking for a small town with a dark secret, this is definitely your kind of place. I was actually a bit surprised that they went this dark. I was expecting a rather bland and stereotypical backstory, if any.For a movie targeted to teens, it's really not that bad. If you're old enough to have teenage kids yourself, however, I'd probably steer clear.
