Flight of the Phoenix
When an oil rig in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia proves unproductive, an aircraft crew are sent to shut the operation down and fly them out. On the flight out over the desert on the way to Beijing, Capt. Frank Towns and co-pilot A.J. are unable to keep their cargo plane, a C-119 Flying Boxcar, in the air when a violent sandstorm strikes. Crash-landing in a remote uncharted part of the desert, the two pilots and their passengers -- a crew of oil workers and a drifter -- must work together to survive by rebuilding the aircraft. Soon, low supplies and a band of merciless smugglers add even greater urgency to their task.

That was an excellent one.
Sorry, this movie sucks
Don't listen to the negative reviews
There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Plot; The survivors of a plane crash must overcome their differences if they're rebuild their plane and escape their Hellish circumstances.I've never seen the original, which certainly has a better pedigree and reputation than this lightly regarded remake. The pieces are all here for the combination of tense drama and survival adventure the story promises, but in the hands of a less than accomplished director like John Moore (Max Payne, Die Hard w/a Vengeance), it too often falls flat despite the solid and game cast. Dennis "When they can't get Harrison Ford" Quaid heads an above board cast that includes Miranda Otto, Tyreese Gibson, Hugh Laurie and Giovanni Rabisi, the latter of whom steals the film as the weirdly enigmatic brains behind the plan they desperately cling to. The original is more highly regarded for sure, though as I said, I've never seen it. But if you're looking for a better executed new millennium film about survival adventure, I suggest The Grey starring Liam Neeson as this watchable but unremarkable remake never takes flight.
I read a previous post that really had nothing good to say about anything regarding this movie. That's cool but I don't share that sentiment. I loved the movie I thought it was great. I enjoyed everything about it. Its a light, funny and enjoyable movie, with a slightly inspirational vibe to it. Its not heavy or too dramatic in any way, just an easy fun to watch movie. I liked all the characters and the way they played their parts, no complaints from me. Each movie is different so I rank them for what they are, I think its a solid 7 out of ten. There are some great songs throughout the movie as well which I really enjoyed. All round a nice easy to watch movie.
(I would like to preface this by saying that, due to a Netflix induced conundrum, I watched this remake before seeing the original 1966 film. That being said...) I thought this was an outstanding movie. It was extremely intense and even more dramatic than I suspected, but in the end it was an amazing movie. Giovanni Ribisi stands out as a weird little egomaniac who dominated the movie. He was unbelievable in his role! Ribisi does an amazing job of breaking all stereotypes we've placed on him to play this quiet, awkward, mousy little man. The writers and directors did an amazing job of shining light on the darkest parts of the human heart that we all try to keep hidden. They force us to look in on ourselves and recognize our hearts in one of these characters.
Well what can I say about this remake? On the positive side it had great music. However, it had none of the grittiness of the original. These people are fighting for their lives not attending some summer camp!!I do despair of remakes and this one is no exception although it does try to follow the original plot reasonably closely.Hollywood thickos (aka executives) there is a reason why films become classics! You wouldn't try to recreate a Beethoven concerto or a Rembrandt masterpiece so why think you can do it with film? This should not be interpreted as criticism of the actors and actress; their performances where great.Watch the original as well and make up your own mind.
