It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

The Crow is a cult classic for several reason I think, but it is not made for everyone. Do I think it is a flawless movie? No. But in that sense, along with everything else to like about it, I think it's awesome as a whole.Plot- It's about a musician being resurrected by a crow, which then obligates him to avenge the murder of his girlfriend. If you're a majorly picky person when it comes to realism, just note, this is a fantasy movie as much as an action crime thriller. The story is told straight forwardly, with interjections of flashbacks and about one montage, with the main driving force being revenge. There are pretty funny moments, some twisted, and it all takes place within two days (I'm pretty positive) Has a good ending scene that will stick in your mind.Writing- I love it. I know there are rare moments, mainly with the little kid, where it's a fine line between cliché writing and bad acting. But there are definitely some good quotes to walk away with, a lot of natural conversation that isn't useless in terms of the plot. Always nice to have that.Acting/Characters- Brandon Lee is stellar in this role. It's a cool thing to see, for it appears he wasn't in many popular films that would allow him to actually act. In this film, he is full of life within his emotions, which makes every scene so good to me. The supporting cast is great too, minus the little girl. The bad guys are infamously stuck in my head after seeing them shout "FIRE IT UP! FIRE IT UP!" like animals. The main villain is very good too, unpredictable, and played very well.Quality- The production design is killer, absolutely original and cool. It looks like the darkest, most off kilter part of New York or New Jersey. The cinematography is sick, I'll never forget the scene where he finally finds his strength and runs across the rooftops in the night. The filming, the scenery, and the original soundtrack is so great in this movie- so original, and that's why I think it is considered a cult classic.Overall, if you don't like movies that have anything unbelievable in it, don't watch this. If you can simply embrace a movie for the good qualities, understanding it's fiction, this movie is super cool. It's so sad to see somebody absolutely knock out a performance (referring to Lee) and pass away on set. Anyways, this is one of my favorite movies, easily top 10, simply because of the genuine scenes and the unparalleled style. Try to find a movie like this before it's time, you most likely won't. I recommend it highly.

I think one my favourite movies of all time will always be The Crow. I was 10 the first time I saw it and I still watch it sometimes. It's one of the most visually stunning movies I have ever seen and they pulled it off more than 20 years ago without all the CGI technology we have today. It's a work of art in every frame. Story wise it's full of pain and loss, and the movie captures it so well that it always puzzles me how they could make such a dark and depressing story so beautiful and exciting at the same time. And then there's Brandon Lee - the actor of the main character who got accidentally killed on the set by a malfunctioning firearm. This fact alone makes the movie even more interesting as the movie itself questions the nature of death. This movie influenced me in such a way that I started to appreciate the beauty of all dark and scary things we experience. Most people usually look away when experiencing something negative, but I am always driven to understand it and appreciate it if nothing can be done about it. It's very interesting how art can change our personalities and the things we like. The Crow is the suppressed rage of poets and artists everywhere burning their oppressors on a dark wind-swept night and it's one of those movies that got many people interested in the goth culture and elevated it into a whole new level of popularity. At its heart it is a simple revenge movie; a soul drawn back to a corrupt living world to punish those that killed him and his fiance, but the way it's portrayed sets it apart from similar movies. It's a dark journey in a post-industrial hell-scape in search of those who wronged him. If you're looking for something dark and beautiful, this is it.

Terrific film that is often overshadowed by it's notoriety over Brandon Lee's unfortunate death. Based on the cult comic by James O'Barr, this film, adapted by splatterpunk writer David J. Schow, is true to it's source material, but director Alex Proyas, in his feature film debut, unmistakably leave his mark on the film. The story has Lee and his girlfriend are murdered by gang members, but Lee is resurrected as an avenging angel, or crow, who then seeks his revenge upon those who killed him and raped and murdered his girlfriend. Lee gives a strong performance in a part that easily could have been swallowed up under all the make-up, atmosphere, and action. With this as his final film appearance, it's purely speculative, but I really do believe this would have been his breakout film and would have made him a huge star. Besides Lee the film is bolstered by a strong supporting cast that includes Michael Wincott (who was all over the place in the 90s, but seems to have since disappeared), the underused Ernie Hudson, Bai Ling, Anna Thomson, the great David Patrick Kelly, Tony Todd, and Jon Polito. Production designer Alex McDowell also gets big props for his contribution to the film's moody fell, as does cinematographer Dariusz Wolski. Graeme Revell provides a terrific score that I regularly listen to to this day, but I think one of the major heroes of this film is the soundtrack, led off by the title song by The Cure. Back in the day I played this soundtrack endlessness. Some of the tracks, particularly the grunge ones, don't hold up so well (i.e. Stone Temple Pilots or For Love Not Lisa), but others like The Cure, Rage Against The Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Rollins Band, and even My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult still hold up. It's a killer soundtrack and is once again on high rotation in my car. The soundtrack alone should earn this film another star. But overall, this is a smart, scrappy, dark fantasy, that does deserve it's cult following.

I've watched a lot of movies that are about revenge, and most of them are just action movies that don't really capture the darkness of revenge and the human soul in those kind of movies. The Crow is one of the very few revenge themed movies that is as dark as needed, and it doesn't exactly make revenge seem more glorious than it is. The Crow is brutal and violent, but there are also some really beautiful, comforting parts, which make the film stand out from the typical films of the genre. The cinematography is amazing, it's like a beautiful comic book. There's a lot of contrast, loads of black, but still surprisingly much colour. The palette is breathtaking. The cinematography is gruesomely beautiful, considering what they show and what they don't show, and how it's shown. The soundtrack is great, but a bit surprising here and there. Then again, of course such a goth classic would use The Cure in the soundtrack. The Crow is an enchanting, beautiful yet brutal movie, and it's definitely worth watching. Even if you don't care about the genre or a story, what happened to Brandon Lee should be enough to pique your interest.
