Sorry, this movie sucks
I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
Good movie, but best of all time? Hardly . . .
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Having not seen Top Gun before but of course knowing of the film and the significance it had upon Tom Cruise's career path, knowing how raved and praised it has become in today's day and age, one decided in watching for the first time. Having somewhat high expectations based on the fact that the film seems to be universally praise from fanboys, Top Gun was a letdown. We seen a very young Tom Cruise, as well as a young Val Kilmer and they are both decent but overall the film doesn't offer much and is actually quite boring. There are the typical drama that occur but in general nothing too much that grabs the attention. Also the film offers several cringe and corny moments, but that appears to be a major reason as to why it is so loved? Also it was very clear they had to have a character killed off (in this case being Goose) to build upon sympathy and have another motor, but his death really wasn't as heartwarming as imagined. His character came off as somewhat of a joke anyway so the death didn't leave much of an impression. Furthermore, Top Gun isn't nearly as good as it has been praised for, and once can't understand the constant hype it has received. The fact that they are making a sequel over 30 years later, shows that people really love this movie. But will it be a mistake? How much hype will that have? We know once that roll out comes out and the sequel in near on its way, a lot of people will start reviewing and rewatching (or watching for the first time Top Gun). Just sit back and wait for it. 2019.
An excellent movie. This movie is so fun and has a great story. This is easily one of my favourite movies ever, and I've watched it more times than I can remember. Even after the so very many times I have watched Top Gun, it has never gotten old. The soundtrack is fantastic and, I have to admit, the jokes are always funny. Seriously, check this movie out.
Man, this movie is painfully cheesy and lame. Over the top macho machismo mixed with godawful corny romance. The worst of both worlds! I'm all for cheesy 80's movies. I love Roadhouse for it's over the top ridiculousness, but Top Gun is just painful to watch at times. This movie is clearly aimed at immature teenagers of the 80's. Since I was an immature teenager of the 90's, I can't really relate to this movie. I'm sure people that were 80's teens probably have a nostalgic tie to this movie, much like I have to some 90's movies. However, judging this purely as a film, I'd have to say Top Gun is not something I would recommend to anyone looking for a quality movie to watch. There were a couple moments of unintentional humor that made me laugh out loud and the aerial action scenes are very well done, so I'll give the movie a few points for that.4/10************SPOILERS************By the way, is it just me or is his lady friend kind of an a-hole? His best friend just died and she's grilling him for being a quitter! Jeez, maybe give him some time to figure his sh*t out, seriously!Recommended for those that enjoy the DANGER ZONE!, hot shot renegade pilots who live by their own rules, by-the-book authority figures, super cool-guy nicknames, cheesy 80's soundtracks, gender neutral bathrooms, sweaty shirtless man sports, spinning horizons, macho staring contests, spontaneously breaking out into song, slow-mo erotic mouth licking, intense bro-hugs......but that's just like, my opinion, man# Of Times Watched: Once
This is one of those movies that slipped through my fingers for many years. I can't tell why, I just missed any opportunity to watch it before. Well, today I had a look at it. Overall I thought it was amusing, it felt very typical and the cheesiness was really over the top. It's not a movie you can take seriously. It would probably have been a blast if I was younger and I understand a lot of people have nostalgia for it. It didn't do much for me unfortunately. It was difficult to see past all the clichés and silly moments. The soundtrack is nice, no faults there. I loved the camera filters they used. The whole movie is highly saturated and it seems like the entire thing was filmed at golden hour. All the flight scenes are pretty spectacular. Must have been difficult to film them. The characters are stereotypical and corny. Every other scene it's like someone's gonna say "Oh, you!" or something similar. The story goes through all the typical beats. You can easily guess what's gonna happen. So, it's not a movie you should go to if you are looking for depth. I've always admired Jerry Bruckheimer as a producer, he is actually my favorite movie producer. I haven't seen much of Tony Scott's work. I enjoy his visual style the most of what I've seen so farIt's an 80's time capsule and it's typical, cheesy and clichéd, I know. But, it was still decent fun. You can turn your brain off and be entertained. So, that's OK. Maybe I expected too much from it.
