A lot more amusing than I thought it would be.
It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.
I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
This movie is a good remake yeah it may differ from the original quite a bit but still I think it improves so many things and the cast isn't half bad either all in all I love it!
I am, as it were, a horror nut and I can thoroughly recommend this film. After seeing the previous Amityville Horrors I wasn't sure how this one would rate as the first one appeared to be true strictly based on the true story and therefore un-scary, and the others were stupidly unbelievable. This film tops them in shocking horror whilst trying to stick to a semi-realistic storyline. It also goes more into the reason why the house is as haunted as it seems. Without giving too much away this film has several very frightening bits which surpass many horrors of modern times. The lingering image of the little girl and the daemonic faces which haunt the family are a great touch. The ending is good but seems to leave you wondering what happens afterwards. This may not hold greatly to the true story but it is a fantastic supernatural thriller. A must see for any horror lovers.
The Amityville horror pales in comparison to the original of the same name as it follows the Lutz family moving into their Long Island home. What they haven't discovered yet is the house has prior residents who refuse to give up their claim even in death. The film suffers from a bland feel, wooden performance from the lead Ryan Reynolds and scares that have been repeated a million times.I can see what they were trying to do with the updated script yet all the changes leave plot holes a mile long. Chelsea sees a little girl ghost who is abducted and possibly tortured at the end? The house was built on an Indian burial ground, poltergeist, yet they never settled there. There's always big buildups to horror and before it can burst fizzles out like it doesn't know how to precede forward. George becomes agitated, blank stares, chops woods and when it comes time for his big moment comes to his senses.I wanted to like it, but the remake doesn't offer anything new or hold a candle to the original. Stick with the classics on this one.
The 2005 version of The Amittyville Horror was overall disappointing and week. Ryan Reynolds was a BAD choice for the lead, yes he may have a nice body with abs, but that doesn't make him right for this type of lead in this particular film. The acting was bad and wooden from all the actors. The child actors actually did a pretty good job, just not the adult actors. The action was bad and rather stupid. This movie was NOT scary at all, and the jump scares were predictable and very cliché. The movie had potential to be so much better, but it ultimately wasted it's potential. 2/10 for The Amittyville Horror (2005). I apologize for not being able to compare it the 1979 version of the the film, due to the fact that I have not yet seen it, but if it is anything like this, then I don't think I want to see it.
