The Worst Film Ever
Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
The main storyline about the Judge being on trial for murder and his relationship with the son as a lawyer were very entertaining and well done, but it was also about the son's relationship with an ex-girlfriend and if he getting custody over his daughter who visits and his relationship with his brothers (who I found boring) and it tried to be too many things. I wanted to like it, but was slightly disappointed. There's a good movie in the script if it was more focused on the trial and the father - son relationship.
Great acting; hits "close to home" family dynamics; nice twists; perfect ending. I actually watched this whole movie instead of leaving to go read.
Good film. I have seen this movie twice and it was better the second time around. Great performances by every actor and good storyline. Should have won honours.
In this film, a son who graduated as a lawyer returns to his homeland, a small town in the country to see his father, who is a local court judge and with whom he has never had a good relationship. However, he ends up offering to defend him when the elderly judge is charged with murder. The best of the film is the story, a family drama that holds our attention from the beginning because the characters were so well developed psychologically that they end up touching us. Robert Downey Jr. and veteran Robert Duvall give life to son and father, respectively, and both are huge in their performances, being very good how they interact with each other in front of the camera. But neither are sympathetic characters. They are very similar, cranky and a little stern, and because they are very similar, they have difficulty living together. The rest of the cast plays secondary roles but gives good support to these two actors.
