One of my all time favorites.
Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
The World Is Not Enough is one of the weaker installments of Bond. Though still a good film, the plot is rather complex and uninteresting. It is also missing two of the main ingredients in Bond films; one being the villain Renard who is barely in it and doesn't have much presence other than his impact on Elektra and the second being the Bond girl, Denise Richards as a nuclear scientist, ludicrous and in the way. While, Sophie Marceau pretty much takes up the role of both of these to a degree and is incredibly alluring, it is a bit of a mess. The opening teaser is probably the best part of the film, which is often the case with the Brosnan films. The song by Garbage is okay, but not memorable.
Pierce Brosnan continues his impressive run as James Bond, and his performance makes this movie. Overall, it's more of the same with action, gadgets, and lovely women. The woman he's after is accused by Bond of suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. The chase scenes were well done, and the dialogue is first rate. If you're curious about Brosnan as Bond, you will like this.
James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) uncovers a nuclear plot when he protects an oil heiress from her former kidnapper, an international terrorist who can't feel pain. While I tend to like Brosnan as Bond (not saying he is the best one, but a darn fine one), and this movie hits all the right notes, it tends to be a bit corny. The smut jokes seem cheaper, and the inclusion of John Cleese is (appropriately) silly. The tone just feels off, despite it still being a generally well-made movie. One of the highlights for me, actually, is having Garbage (or is it just Shirley Manson?) perform the theme song. Being someone whose best years were in the late 90s, that really hits home for me and makes this somewhat nostalgic even if the film as a whole may not stand the test of time.
It's fast! It has a lot of explosions! It has many big big flames and running around and shooting. It starts with a terrific water and land chase around London mostly on the Thames. It even has a torture scene if that's "your thing." BUT !!! It has so many of these action devises that the story and the who is who and why are they chasing each other get rather lost.Pierce Brosnan is pretending to be Bond in this one but he really IS Remington Steele so it doesn't quite work. Judi Densch as M and Desmond Llewelyn as Q are their usual excellent selves.Outstanding character was Robbie Coltrane as a rather Sidney Greenstreet like semi-villain. Odd to see Hagred in a Bond film. If you want to see all of the Bonds you may like this one. As a stand alone watch only if you like explosions and hard to follow story.
