When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.

I think one would know what to expect from this kind of movies, the over the top action, clichéd hunt the bad guy with your friends, oh there's a list to help you out. You know if you start looking for plot holes and mistakes with the movie you'll find plenty but one can choose to ignore these and watch it just for the actions. But its devoid of any good action in the first 40 min. Performances by everyone is fine nothing commendable but you are not here to see performances are you? Story is predictable and nothing else worth mentioning In all its watchable and can be fun and enjoyable with friends. I would have given it 6 but i'm deducting one for boring me through the first 40 min.Verdict: meh.

I don't know why I feel so 'dirty' watching 'Red.' Deep down I know it's hardly Shakespeare and I should never rate it more than a 2/5. However, there's something oddly satisfying from watching a load of old actors go crazy with guns and take out wave after wave of trained henchmen like they were immortal. 'Red' is effectively an action-thriller, with a healthy dose of 'Bourne-like' spy-movie thrown in there. Bruce Willis plays a retired John McClane (not really, but he might as well – effectively a retired CIA killer) who, something, something, something, ends up on the run with a woman he's been flirting with over the phone. Naturally, there's hired government killers on his trail at every turn and he must fight for survival every step of the way while he desperately tries to prove his innocence. Think that plot synopsis sounds familiar? Well, it does. It's basically the same as every other recent (Bourne clone) spy movie made in the last few years. It's nothing new, but it is fun.I guess you could say that it's a bit of a gimmick having the lead being an 'elderly' balding (sorry Bruce!) hero, as opposed to a young man with a nice tan and full head of hair on the run. In fact… it is the 'age factor' that is this film's only real selling point. Bruce doesn't go it alone, he's helped out by an aging John Malkovich, an aging Morgan Freeman and an aging Helen Mirran – all of which are quite capable to murdering any young, highly-trained upstart who gets in their way. And, yes, it is fun to see them in action.Despite the serious subject matter of death at every turn, the film never even attempts to take itself seriously. It knows it's daft and over the top and that's its main saving grace. If it tried to make us think that a bunch of senior citizens could really do all this then it would be ridiculous. However, throughout all the car chases and shootouts it almost parodies itself. If you like your action movies fun (like pre Daniel Craig Bond) then you should appreciate this, plus if you're a fan of Bruce Willis doing what he does best, or just want to see Helen Mirren wield a sniper's rifle, then you should definitely enjoy this. The plot is simple, Karl Urban is kind of wasted as the film's primary antagonist, hell bent on Willis' capture/death, but he's a nice addition anyway. Just don't think too deeply about why an older man still has to have a considerably younger love interest at his side!

The 2010 action comedy "RED" based on a DC graphic novel, starring one of Hollywood finest with Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren all together in acting out for the sake of acting in a movie directed by Robert Schwentke, who has all strings kept tight together with the support of cinematographer Florian Ballhaus and making the most out of a modest budget of 50+ Million U.S. Dollars given by producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.Starting from a gentle opening sequence where the character of Frank Moses, performed by flourishing Bruce Willis, seeks an emotional connection with a random female call center clerk, portrayed by Marie-Louise Parker, before turning his quite home existence by digging out his former identity as contract killer from the concrete's of his basement, which undoubtedly gave "John Wick" (2014) its initial beat to go on another rampage."RED" has qualities of a different kind then the ultra-violence of a "John Wick" movie. The precisely calculated camera movements, pitch-pointy acting beats and hands-on action scene with a occasional digital tweaking twists makes the movie even after seven years in a competitive circuit of Marvel sharks quite some entertainment to watch. Director Robert Schwentke had made sure that the final product has become a quality picture with all ingredients a Hollywood could wish for. Dancing on the thin red line of being R-rated and being just intelligent enough of not stepping over to become another wasted action movie with money making stars in slave mode. Here finds each and every character his hook to keep production times at high spirit - magically speaking - there was not a notable pacing problem in "RED" where tension between the character dropped to a no interest level, which kept me at bay of entertainment pleasures even on a second review of the material. A fact, which the second part directed by Dean Parisot in the season 2012/2013 could fulfill anymore. Camera movements became standard coverage and the doubled production budget had nothing else to do than throw into CGI effects of exploding private jets and crashing helicopters from the sky."RED" (2010) has become quietly and instantly a classic of the otherwise overthrown adaptation madness of graphic novels of recent days. Director Robert Schwentke, unimpressed by the originals, kept his head clear and delivered a medium budgeted mainstream movie, which initially can be enjoyed by any audience around the world. Only one remark makes my mood shifting in the reminiscence of "RED" that the character of Joe Matheson, performed by lightness living Morgan Freeman, and Bruce Willis interpretation of Frank Moses had not have the proper fight-out scene to maximize an action movie with the sophistication of an emotional impact that sticks long after the curtains come down.© 2017 Felix Alexander Dausend (Cinemajesty Entertainments LLC)
