One of my all time favorites.
The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Also, most underrated and under-appreciated Denzel Washington role. I heard from a movie industry insider that Denzel's star power didn't draw many of his usual fans because they didn't want to see him playing an un-sexy, nerdy or unattractive character. But I agree with other reviewers who say this is his best performance in any film. I found the title character of Roman J. Israel, Esq. to be unforgettable, unique and deeply moving, The script is terrific, the supporting actors uniformly good. Colin Farrell's reaction shots are priceless. But most of all, the story is relevant, meaningful, and engrossing. Los Angeles provides the perfect backdrop for a new breed of American hero...
I gave this movie 8/10 but... the script, etc., maybe a 6. Denzel Washington's performance? A Spinal Tap 11. He is great in this film as an idiosynchratic character and completely drives it along. That's all you need to know. Watch it for the acting.
About 45 minutes into the movie I said to my wife while watching the DVR of this movie : "see I know how to pick movies" with an air of self satisfaction usually reserved for more profound exclamation.s. As the movie continued to slog toward it's very welcomed end, I became increasingly anxious that my reputation would suffer tremendously. Sad to say I am now in the process of making amends that will take years to pay. The acting was only ok as well, unusual for Mr. Washington. O well, no one is perfect. Anyway, in summary, the movie starts off promising although not original and meanders off a cliff. A very tall cliff by the way, so save your money and go see Death of Stalin.
Utterly watchable, brilliant in every way. This movie seems to have either the highest review scores or the lowest, with little in between.A quality drama with an amazing and unusual story, the type of film rarely seen coming from the dross of Hollywood these days, if you have any insight and enjoy true movie value, this is one for you.I will need to watch this again. Some of the one liners have such wisdoms without in any way attempting to be 'wise', 'clever' or 'meaningful', but simply reflect the quality of the movie.
