Cut Snake
Young, charismatic, and hardworking, Sparra Farrell seems to be sailing into a happy, respectable life. He has a solid job and an adorable fiancée named Paula, and already owns a modest house in the country outside Melbourne. The only odd thing is that Sparra says precious little about his past — but that past is about to catch up with him, and wrest control of his present.

Sorry, this movie sucks
It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
This is a gorgeous movie made by a gorgeous spirit.
There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
I am an Aussie and I like to support our Australian film industry and so I wanted to like this movie, but unfortunately it turned out to be disappointing.I agree with the points made by the two earlier reviews of "gazferg" and "mattory" In my view, some elements were fine, but other parts were so poor that they dragged the movie down to finish up with something that, in the end, was very poor.Sullivan Stapleton as "Pommie" is excellent; his menacing presence was quite gripping however the other two leads, Alex Russell and Jessica De Gouw did not quite deliver the performances required to make the movie work. Unfortunately, a few of the other bit part players were so poor they were farcical. The technical side of the filmmaking is quite solid. In the end the weaknesses of the script and direction, particularly as the film spirals to its ending, ruins the film, leaving this viewer extremely disappointed.
This movie is quite frankly terrible. Terrible. Slow pacing and a bizarre twist that just makes no sense besides a plot twist. The only good thing about it is that is was short enough to allow me to get out of the car park without paying for parking. Do not waste your time watching. But if you must just know that you were warned and you didn't listen. Terrible. Zero thumbs up.I can't think of a worse way to spend an hour an a half. I just hope no taxpayers money was wasted on this. Again do not waste your time. *angry face
Cut Snake is the latest feature from Australian director Tony Ayers. I enjoyed his 2002 feature 'Walking on Water', and thought he was one to watch. Weaving between single dramas, mini series and feature films, Tony's latest Cut Snake is of interest for his name, and secondly for that of leading man Sullivan Stapleton. An actor on the rise, Sullivan has also been carving out a name for himself across different mediums, and he makes the most of his leading status, piercing the lens with his brooding frame and affect. It is at times a bold and shocking performance; one that elevates him, rightfully to leading status in this country. Alex Russell and Jessica De Gouw were both discoveries for me, and the former emerges with the more fleshed out and compelling character. It is beautifully designed and directed and an interesting interplay of genres and characterizations.
Cut Snake, an Australian production, tells a good 'yarn'. Unfortunately, that's the only good thing about this movie. Cut Snake is the story of 2 ex-offenders, "Pommie" (Sullivan Stapleton) and "Sparra" (Alex Russell), who have a bond, which seems to be fulfilled negatively through violence. After Pommie is released from prison, he's keen to re-unite with Sparra. However, Sparra has put the past behind him and is keen to get on with his life with his fiancée, Paula (Jessica De Gouw), his employment, and other goals. This doesn't fit with Pommie's plans and he goes about luring Sparra to a life of crime to enable him to bond again with Sparra. From the outset this film lacked believability. The audience were left to work out what era it was set in by the fashion and cars. The acting quality was inconsistent and some of the film was incongruous. The ending is predictable in an unnecessarily negative way.The film I saw was a preview with general release scheduled in 3 months. Some in the audience around me were sighing and shifting about in their seats restlessly as the movie progressed. There has been some suggestion that this film is comparable to the highly acclaimed Animal Kingdom. It isn't! It doesn't have the suspense or sense of menace and the acting in Animal Kingdom is far superior.
